Looks like my mate is going to have to put 4 tyres on a Mk4 Estate.

without braking the bank, what would everyone recommend?

Michelin Energy - superb tyre, and proven to use less fuel.  Last for ages.  Comfortable, and quiet.

Conti EcoContact are OK, but a tad noisy, which might be worse on an estate car.  :undecided:

Uniroyal are good in that size, and are superb in the rain, but if used on primarily dry roads, can wear out quick.

Can't really think of anything else to recommend in that size, HTH,

Goodyear Optigrip

Goodyear Hydragrip - both Goodyears are excellent in the wet, and we're heading into winter...

Dunlop SP Sport Fastresponse

Cheaper I'd go for Kumho or Millenium
1999 mk4 1.8 n/a AGN Silver Grey
