what grade of fuel should i put in a 1989 1.8 8v ?.
Ive been told regular unleaded is ok but sticker on fuel filler flap says use minimum ron of 97 this would mean using super unleaded .Would appreciate advice.

hello there..

? ? i ve been ussing supper unleaded from sainsburys because its the only place that sells it where i live. i would defintly reccomend it if you can use shell optimax . dont hold me to this but ive been told that german motors run better on higher octane feul , try it and see if you can notice a diffrence....

The higher the octane the better. They will all run on unleaded, (95 RON) although quite a few models will need to have the ignition timing retarded, all will run on super unleaded (97 RON), but the best of the lot is Shell Optimax (99 RON)

Yep!! Optimax is the one 4 you!!!  8)

Ive been using it for the last year and it improves the mid-range some-what.
Ive notcied a better overtaking response on the motorway too.
It is probarbly the most expensive petrol on the planet, but it does the job!!  ;)

cheers guys.

Most K-jet cars will run on unleaded as long as you mix a bit of super in fairly often. Digifant will run on unleaded no problem but super is recommended. My VR6 runs best on optimax.

Thanks for the advice. Ive tried running on unleaded and super unleaded,(cant get optimax where i live) although the car seems to run ok on premium there is a noticeable increase in performance when using super unleaded, more power when overtaking etc , also the fuel consumption appears to be slightly better.so i'll be using super, eventhough its 86p per litre at my local garage!
