Hi all, ordered by mk8 GTI last week and expect it to arrive within the next two weeks, in a lot of reviews I've seen them reviewing allegedly stock (no winter pack, etc.) cars and then mentioning how to control the heated seats, but the website doesn't say they're standard... I think the mk7 had them as standard.
Can anyone confirm if I'm likely to get them too? Cheers.
-
AFAIK, they are now part of the Winter Pack on the Mk8, so no does not look like you will get them if the vehicle is completely stock
-
No, not standard. You need to spec the Winter Pack. Heated steering wheel is however standard on the MK8.
-
The mk7.5 had them as standard, most of the mk7 didn't.
It's clearly something sooner or later will get bundled in the mk8 but not yet.
-
Thanks guys, thought that'd be the case, not particularly fussed about them not being heated considering the seats are fabric.
-
Rarely used them in my 7.5. Has to be below freezing for me to turn them on
-
That is so crap, should be 100% standard :lipsrsealed:
-
With the leather option, the front seats are heated and they’re also air conditioned - presumably a cooling function for when the weather’s hot, and leather can get hot and sticky).
IMHO with the standard cloth upholstery, heated seats are a ‘nice to have’ but not essential. Cloth upholstery doesn’t suffer from the extremes of temperature that leather seats do, so cloth is never really cold in the winter and very rarely if ever butt burningly hot in the summer.

They're definitely nice to have in the winter. Wouldn't want to be without them now i've got used to having them.

+1 - a must have for me. Then I do live in the frozen north, maybe not so essential in the tropical south.
-
+1 for the misses, rarely use mine
-
they dont always work anyway!!
Passenger seat is very intermittent on mine - been back to the dealer and they cant fix it as they dont know whats wrong but they do agree that its broken, they will speak to VW about it...... 8 weeks later and no update, it all adds to the great dealer experience!!
Heated steering wheel is nice though :-)
-
I've not even tried turning mine on.
Suppose I should so I can finish my sh1tlist for them to sort out.
-
i started a sh1t list..... i ran out of paper!

It’s funny but up until I tried one I’d have called the feature some very un-PC names.
But it’s great!

i was the same, I used to think it was a feature aimed at millennials.....
Now that i have it, I like it, but I still wouldn't pay for it however, id leave that to the millennials! ha
I do find the positioning of the function annoying though, I find myself turning it on whenever I turn a corner!
-
I wonder what jim royle would say about heated seats?
Heat my ar5e.

I think they only put it on to stop you wanting to wear gloves... if you wear gloves the sensors in the steering wheel can't detect you holding it and so will throw alarms about you not holding the steering wheel.... and ultimately stop the car.
-
Basically there are a pile of things VW had to provide for 21/22 that are mandated by EU regs.... because they had to give you use for "free" they aren't going to give you heated seats.... that I suspect is the problem.

Are you saying I can't wear my driving gloves?

The big reason for asking is that a 7 Golf GTI that I had for a courtesy car for a couple of weeks had them, I didn't use them that much to be honest and my better half hated that I kept turning hers on, so it's probably a blessing I don't have them  not a big loss to me at all.
Upgrading from a 1.0 EcoBoost Ford Focus, so the thought of LED headlights alone is a novelty at the moment.

Millennials are turning 40 this year

Back in my day, we had no heated seats. We had to pick up a lump of coal from the stove and put it down the back of our pants if we wanted a warm bum

Yes, I can remember those days . I can also remember my first car didn’t have electric screen washers - to activate the washers, you had to repeatedly push a button on the dash. That car also didn’t have sun visors - it had one of those tinted green stick on strips across the top section of the windscreen. It didn’t suffer from some of the gremlins that affect modern cars though as there was very little to go wrong. I wouldn’t want to go back to those days of car owning though.
Makes you appreciate some of the luxuries in modern cars that have become standard features.
Apologies for going off topic.

It was like when I was watching Rory's autotrader review of the Mk8 R.... he was saying about not being able to remember the last car that didn't have lit up heating or volume controls.... I can remember lots actually!
And they didn't have any other way of adjusting those controls either - no steering wheel buttons, no voice control!

My first three cars didn’t have illuminated heater controls. I didn’t have a car with electric windows as standard until my eighth car .

Last car I owned had a cassette player
