Title: Broken tensioner gt tdi 170
Post by: kelaroost on 10 September 2017, 21:05
Hi all
So yesterday my tensioner stud snapped on my golf gt tdi... as you can imagine I'm highly pi**ed.
It's a 2006 170bhp model with stage 1 remap and dsg gearbox.
Now I understand these are interference engines and the likely hood of damage is pretty much certain.
I was travelling at 40mph when the car died and I've always been taught to dip the clutch straight away to minimise damage... being a dsg this wasn't possible so I'm assuming the engine would still be turning whilst I rolled to a stop?
Is it going to be cheaper to put another engine in or strip this one down and rebuild It? What bits am I likely to have damaged that will need replacing?

Thanks guys
Kelaroost :)
