140 vs 170

right, i'm thinking of ditching the mk4 early next year for a mk5 tdi.

had a good search and there are plenty of threads saying the basic differences, but what are the mechanical differences, and the different characteristics of the engines?

ie mk4 PD130 to PD150, the 150 has bigger turbo, intercooler and torque is spread over a wider rev range to the 130

Pretty much the same as you described for the MK4.  The 140 does have a FMIC though and jot a side mount like the 130 had.

Both engine are evolutions of their MK4 counterparts. If you're used to the 150 then the 170 will be right up your street

I went for the 170 simply because i didnt want a slower car than the one I was replacing  :laugh:

With a map and DPF delete its now running 205bhp  :evil:

yeah I think the 170 is the one for me, not too bothered about the dpf as my commute is 35 miles each way, plus the faster models are usually better specced!

are the boost pipes an issue like on mk4's?

26K mapped miles and no issues thus far........ :lipsrsealed:

that's good, the boost pipes on the mk4 nearly broke me, and that's without a remap!

Touch wood - I have had minimal issue with the boost pipes on my 150! I don't get the hype!

Even though you think you havent had troubles i bet your bottom dollar you are leaking boost from them  :lipsrsealed:

The car will do its best to compensate for the lack of boost but it can only do so much..........
