Looks nice but I hope they call it the GTi .:R and NOT the .:R20
Surely calling it a lower number than 32 would be going backwards???!!! :shocked:

As far as I know it was called the R32 because of the 3.2 litre engine. Maybe the next R will be an up rated 2.0 V4? Like how the S3 has an uprated version of the mk5 GTI engine.

270bhp 2.0 turbo and 4 wheel drive, yes please.

But Egbert says no mk6 GTI so how can this be true?

Lot of speculative.. and factually incorrect information in that. An american magazine picking up on the rumours that we were gossiping about 6 months ago :lipsrsealed:

Talk of R models is just VW's way of spoiling sales of Fords, Hondas, Renaults, Vauxhalls during the long period they have no hot hatch on sale.  Personally, with the new platform just a year or so away, I don't even see a MK6 regular GTI appearing.

how much are you prepared to wager on there being no mk6 gti as it seems to be a favourite subject of yours? ;)

With respect I don't know where you get your info from but it is all incorrect! There WILL be a GTi in the Mk6 (it's already on the VW website?!) and an .:R model will follow in 2010.

Oh and long period without a hot hatch??? VW have Mk5's sitting on runways around the globe and the Mk6 GTi is out in June. So that long period will be nil as they will overlap!

The new platform will be used firstly on the new A3 when it's launched.

Yeah, I am sure they will get good value from it.
I have yet to see a mk5 crash test with a dog on the dash. Most disappointing.
