Advise on buying a mk1 GTI
« on: 15 March 2005, 17:34 »
Hello,

I'm currently a Corrado owner who?s looking to sell up and get myself a classic (although no doubt the Corrado is heading that way).

So what should I look for?

There seems to be a lot out there but what are some of the pit falls?
I use to have a Scirocco so have come across the fuel filler hose rusting out (which incidentally buggered a brand new Webber carb due to the rusty bits). I understand the wings can suffer with rust? Also, are the engines bomb proof as it will be used daily and I do like to enjoy a bit of pedal down action!

My Corrado should sell for between 2-2.5k so that?s what I'll have to play with.

Thanks

Thanks a lot guys! I must admit, I'm slightly concerned about jumping from the C over to an mk1 especially as it will be an everyday car!

That said the summers coming and bombing around in a real classic is something I'm really looking forward to. The other half is very dubious as she does enjoy all the C has to offer.

I'll keep you posted on how I get on and will no doubt have a number of questions once purchased.

Thanks again!
