PS4s.....is it me?
« on: 11 October 2020, 17:14 »
So 4 new PS4 to replace the original Bridgestones.
But..... running the same pressures of 36 all round the ride now feels slightly harsher to me and a few minor rattles are back. This is not what I expected from any new set of tyres far less these ones.
I’m wondering about taking a little pressure out of the fronts.
Now before I get lots of replies I am aware the subject of tyres has been done to death but I need to know if this is me being too precious or my expectations too high.
On previous GTIs I found changing from Bridgestone to Goodyear F1 was a revelation. So why am I feeling underwhelmed now?

You don't mention how many miles you have driven to arrive at your definitive conclusion? :)

I fitted 18" ps4 to my previous Gti PP, they were definitely a step up, so good that I bought a set for another car.

Bed them in and enthusiastically test them out for a couple of hundred miles, see how you get on?

I changed over from Bridgestones to the PS4’s and the first couple of hundred miles I wasn’t that impressed but then all of a sudden the just seem to switch on and they were giving me grip I never knew was in the car!

I found them quieter and nicer to drive with from day 1

The biggest downside is the fronts did about 7000 miles and were down to 3mm so I got the dealer to swap them front to back during the service

I’m only at 150 miles of gentle bedding in!

I hated the PS4 I had fitted to my GTi pp. Gave a very soft and sloppy feel, yes they were grippy but didn't like the feel of them.

I've just changed from the original BSs to PS4s and there is a noticeable improvement in ride.
I can't understand why you would find the ride harsher.
I'm also running at 36psi, which I think is ok.
The grip and traction is very much better- even more so than I remember bridgestones when new.
The car just feels quicker
I wasn't particularly happy with steering feel initially but I think this is ok now.

I think I perhaps need to start putting a bit of “use” into them which might indeed make the difference I’m looking for.
I have DCC.....wonder if that is a factor?
Anyway, onwards!

Well, I’m still not 100% happy so I had a closer look at the 4 new “Michelin PS4s” today and this is what I found to my shock :

NSF : Primacy
OSF : PS4
NSR : PS4
OSR : Primacy

I have sent a complaint to Blackcircles so the ball is in their court.

Really! How bad is that?

Interested to hear the outcome of this...

That is shocking service. Though I must say, you are very trusting. I would check tyres and alloys meticulously after any tyre change
