If you want to play that analogy.. in the OP's case he's running on fumes and driving right by a Morrisons, but the nearest Shell is 50 miles away. So he's using just enough of the crap stuff to get to the Shell garage

I feel this could run and run!

Yes but running out of petrol or leaving a car detailing until you have the right stuff a little different.

Oh sod it, just run out of petrol, were is that Morrisons? might as well pick up a sponge the same time to rub grit all over me car.

Cheers Conker, the only guy on here backing me up.

Anyway it's done now. took 6 hours.

Washed with some nice Apple Fairy washing up liquid,  clayed, rinsed off with water, super resin polished, 2 coats of gloss protection and 2 coats of Natty's Paste wax.

And before anyone says anything I know fairy used now will just undo all my hard work. Was just a ONE OFF.

Glad to see I got a bit of a debate started though.

Cheers everyone, (well, Conker anyway).

quite a few guys will use washing up liquid as a pre-soak to a detail on a really minging car - all this stuff about rotting seals is cobblers, APC's and degreasers are just as bad, if not worse. APC's / tardis / etc will stain paint for example.

after all, if washing up liquid is that bad, why would you stick your hands in it? theres a lot of marketting hype with a lot of products.

as he said, its a one off, then being detailed, then a "proper" shampoo is going to be used - no problem with that
