Title: Insurance increase by Changing engine from original spec...
Post by: hardmonkeys on 21 February 2015, 14:50
Hey, I'm looking to convert my auto Cabrio to manual, and changingnthe engine from 2.0 8v to 2.0 16v, now being the law abiding citizen(twit, whichever way you look at it) I obviously will be declaring this to my insurance company, has anyone any idea if it will bump it up a lot? Or will be be miniscule?

I've never had to declare mods before, so any help it great

Depends how old you are/experience. But I wouldn't bank on it being cheap...

In my experience uttering the words "non standard engine" make all the regular insurers jump ship, and specialists were always way too expensive for me even on a standard engine.

Insurance is different for everyone though, so have a ring around and find out

Mods put £200 onto my insurance, they're interested in the cost of the items...£750 for the milltek, £80 for the rear valance etc. I'm with Aidrian Flux but have heard Greenlight are good.

Just made the phone call to Admiral, as the Cabrio was due to go on it in March after the previous policy expires...they wouldn't touch it, as it has to be like for like, eg, 2.0 8v auto to 2.0 8v auto,

So...I rang the current insurance up, they are going to insure it, for no extra charge, confirmed its 2.0 16v and a manual...they said yes that's fine, just a £25 admin charge!

Happy days!!

I know. I'm very surprised if I'm honest, its insured by Adrian Flux, underwritten by Highway, or other way around lol.  all i have to do now, is the actual swap, and tell DVLA. Neighbour has offered to help me, which is a result too, as i was planning to do it alone.

Cant wait now
