So what are the GTD's getting to the gallon these days?
Mine's doing about 42 in London with a heavy right foot.
Motorway 55-58 pushing on!!
-
47.3mph overall. Its lower in the really cold, although now its 6-9 degrees out I have seen it creep back to over 50 now.
-
My long term is 53 ish, I've had high 60's but I had to drive like a saint
It's remarkable what you can get out of them
-
Motorway 55-58 pushing on!!
I was thinkinhg about this today. My current TDI averages 57 mpg. Good car but I miss the fun factor.
I was wondering what an extra 65 horsies under the bonnet would do to my mpg.
Looks like the GTD will have excellent smiles per gallon for hot hatch performace in the mid range.

Daz your going to love your GTD mate wellcome to the GTD section

Mid 50s on long motorway trips in the summer months with cruise on, but dropping to high 40s in the cold weather.
-
Can you diesel boys tell me what range you are getting from a tank full?
-
In the winter 500-550, summer 600-650, fuel light comes on.
-
About 550 at the mo to £50 ish can get 690 if I drive real s l o w and use every last drop.
-

So based on a 55 litre/12.1 gallon tank that's a real-world 45-57mpg. Not bad, especially as I'm getting 28-33
-
28-33 in what version Mac7 "R"?
-
Yes, the R. Wifey wants to replace our family wagon (Passat 2.0TFSI) with a diesel. The new one has the GTD engine so I was wondering how often we'd be filling it up.
-
Diesel definitely seems to be the way to go now, for everyday usable performance you can't really go wrong with them. Its becoming difficult to justify running a petrol instead of a diesel now.

Good MPG I think - I never got more than 25-27 from my Mk5 GTI (Manual)
-
I drive it like a grandad  I do quite a few long motorway journeys in it, so it's just cruising most of the time.
-
I just got back from a trip up north, empty roads, no rozzers, 170 miles, 2 hours ish, only managed 38.4 mpg.
Got bang on 50mpg this morning on the way up there.
Pound for pound, its got to be the best engine if you need a balance between fun and economy. A great engine...25.5k in 7 months and still feels like new...
-
Gt TDI with the bluefin
I've only covered 8k since getting the car with no long trips yet, 1 planned for Feb to Manchester. I average 53MPG combined.
Any you GTD boys added the cruise control ?. I use this all the time in road work areas saves forgetting the limit....
Will post after the Manchester run as that should be 400-500 miles round trip
-
Paid for cruise when ordering mine, couldn't do without it.
-
I only use cruise alot, specially when I take a call or a travelling abroad. I go to a place in Germnay and I can just make it their and back on a tank if i dirve carefully no faster than about 90...what amazes me about my car is how far it will go with a range of 'zero....'
In circumstances when your listening out for the engine to die, I use my foot.
-
I use cruise A LOT can't live without it.
-
I use cruise A LOT can't live without it.
Must be boring with cruise
-
I just end up doing 100 everywhere without it  I'll give you the logins to my tracker and you'll see the days I don't use it
I work 35 miles from home and it's 95% motorway
-
I average 25,000 miles a year and get about 650 miles to a tank in the TDI
25,000/650=38.4 tanks per year
It now costs over £70 to fill the tank
38.4x70= £2692 :undecided:
Anyone know what a GTD and GTI do to the tank?
-
It all depends on how you drive, were you drive, traffic etc etc too many unknowns. I do know that in my case and my conditions the petrol is doing 10mpg less than the deisel.
-
Are GTI owners allowed here?
Max 47 mpg (very, very painful).
Min 20 mpg (very, vey enjoyable).
-
Due to the recent increase in temperature outside I noticed that the mpg has increased back to the figures I like more. e.g. 55-58mpg. Rather than 48-51mpg. Which is good for me especially with the price rises recently.
My journey consists of
-2.5 miles at 40mph (3 junctions, 5 roundabouts)
-14 miles of motorway 70mph (0.25 miles 1 slip/roundabout with 1 set of lights, 3/4 distance 1 slip/motorway roundabout)
-11.5 miles various A/B roads at 30/40/ 50 majority (0.25miles 2 roundabouts, various 7 junctions, 10.75miles 1 roundabout)
-
Are GTI owners allowed here?
Everybody's allowed here
-
38 mpg from Hanover, Germany to Suffolk yesterday - 540 miles - 6.5 hours driving
-
Kicking the sh1t out of it then
-
38 mpg from Hanover, Germany to Suffolk yesterday - 540 miles - 6.5 hours driving
So you averaged 83mph. That's good going. Especially as you would have had to stop for diesel at some point.
-
Yeah it was a good run, I left at around 2pm and the roads were clear; even the Antwerp ring.
With such little traffic on the road everyone had the chance to push on, specially as everyone moves out of the fast lane.
For about 250 miles I picked up a 'wing-man' in a S320..
-
Spritmonitor lists 58 GTD's with a range between 34 and 51mpg, and an average just shy of 42. Probably a realistic figure.
-
Now I've just seen this TDI section from a thread in the GTI section. There was a thread in there talking about if we should have a TDI/GTD section so I didn't think we had one.
Well the best I've got is 43.83mpg and the worst 38.08mpg. Now I do 70% local work the rest is a blast up the motorway just to clear the DPF out though I've never had the light come on. All mine are full tank fillups and I don't rely on the MFD as that always reads 2-3mpg over.
(http://www.fuelly.com/sig-uk/43490.png) (http://www.fuelly.com/driver/KeithUK/golf)
Other fuel sites are available but I find this one is the best.
-
The highest reported value I have had yet on a 27 mile run
(http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5174/5426093458_61b64befcf_z.jpg)
and video at the end
http://flic.kr/p/9gr6ur
estimated at 718 miles to a tank at the mo.
Miss Daisy. (Any one seen the price of fuel these days 131.9p)
-
My GTD was built in April 2010 took delivery in April too, the 59 plate GTD I test drove had it, I have a Vagcom maybe I will try and look to see if its in there, but maybe I need the SKU or code what ever for access to the clocks?
Have been trying really hard with the driving like miss Daisy still on for 700 to a tank at the mo. Even this this morning in -2 to 1 degree temps same journey to work achieved 61.9mpg. Only time will tell wether the displayed mpg matches the calculated tank fill when it gets to the end. Got stuck last night in a traffic jam and it ripped the miles remaining down by 60!!!! it was reporting 730 to a tank and lost 5mpg during that journey.
Its one 3/4 at the mo with 240miles on the trip.
-
I'm now getting 500-650 miles per tank depending on how I drive her - happy with that - my last car gave 350-450 miles on £105 fill ups
Wonder what the R drivers are getting per tank, and I also wonder what size tank they have?
-
IIRC 4motion/heldex tanks are bigger.
-
IIRC 4motion/heldex tanks are bigger.
On the MK4 4mo and .:R32 I think they were 63 litres or thereabouts :undecided:
-

Cool, I've had fuel tank issues in the past with Evo's I've owned, got less than 100 miles per tank often
-
Update 325miles on the trip with 5/8ths a tank left, still on for 710 to a tank full. The most i have ever had to half is 330, so i will be beating my record tomorrow.
-
Majority of my driving is rush hour stop/start during the week and this is killing my MPG - I average 43-45.
Yesterday I did a 200 mile motorway round trip and wasn't gentle but got over 50 MPG sonmuch much better.
As an aside mine doesn't have the gear change indicator either
-
A Hair over half now with 378 miles on the clock can I get 400 to half a tank???
-
Right got fed up today as it was taking too long to use all the fuel, filled up 33 litres with 429.7 miles on the clock. 59 odd miles per gallon. Pretty good all in.
-
Good going there - wish my MPG was that good :embarassed: perhaps my right fot is too heavy?
-
Extreme Patience required.
-
Patience I have but not extreme patience.
One of my challenges is that my journey to and from work involves some big big hills
Off down to Sheffield tomorrow so will see if I can improve it without taking away the fun!

Garage rang today and told me that the gear change display can be done (theyd drawn a nlank yesterday and had to ring VW technical!) but will need a software update (ECU)
Just need to sort out when to do it.

That's the one Keith.
Didn't get time to ring the garage today as back-to-back meetings :(. Will try and ring tomorrow and find out more and let you know!

So your having it enabled with a software update then? I wonder if this is a new update as when I asked the dealer if there were any updates they said no and they said it can't be enabled. I shall have to get on to them again, thanks for the info.
-
It's going to be a slow month then, but an economical one.
I was put up to say this!!!! :lipsrsealed:

Mines doing sub 7 secs 0-60 and 65mpg on a run so not that slow and I won't be stopping to re-fuel either way

Yes but I'd say I removed it gently using the best of tools
Some don't need to be removed btw

Mine's going to be the most economical as I am going to use my Freedom Pass. As far as speed is concerned, it will be slow on the stinking tubes, but at least it's free.
This makes me Emperor Cheapskate.

Yes, I dooos. At 60 one gets the Freedom to travel free all over and outside London. Valid for 5 years at a time. I am now a Senior Citizen with a red hot GTI which puts lead in my pencil.
I do go for a run every morning before work for 30 mins and do some light exercises. Then have a hearty breakfast which sets me up for the day. Maybe this is TMI.

The golfs not that low any more. Its low still but not dhead low.

Outside of work I used my much loved 2009 MY Discovery3 HSE which returned over 27mpg today on urban driving
I only have to use the golf for work and testing really, thats the main reason I went for that version as I Had a lot to learn about DPF regens on the CR engine in both standard and tuned forms

Snoops gets better MPG from his GTI than you get from your GTD - has to be down to duty / driving style
-
100 odd miles each way, 61.8 mpg on the way down and 60.9mpg on the way back. Never broke 70mph. I was very patient today, must been some good tunes on the Mway. Proud!! J11 of the M5 to J25 of the M5 then to Yeovil. Its quoting 700 to the tank.
-
66.7 mpg this morning and I did my 35 mile drive starting with 35 miles range (thanks to my lovely wife ) and yet still ended up with 15 miles remaining when I arrived at work
47 on the way home though

The real world I have a life to get too makes my right foot a bit heavier though.
MPG's has plummeted since the fitment of its winter wellies, might have to see about some four wheel alignment just to be sure.
-
Mines down too, best I could get this week coming to work was 65.6 mpg on a 50 min 32 mike trip mostly motorway.
Must try harder
-
mines gone back up now I'm 1k into the new winters, 74mpg on the way home last night, 28 miles in total with circa 90% as motorways.
gonna have to up your game there young fella ma lad!
-
I'd say my journey is 75% motorway so matching your MPG on that run would involve b/s so your the current mpg king :-)
I'll try on a 90% run
-
Fail lol
Did a 24 mile run to the Trafford centre today, 3 miles from my house to the motorway....
69.7 MPG

I have to admit its down now to average of 50 mpg. Cold weather lights all the time, heater on.

About what I get when I drive with the traffic 50-55ish

I'm in a life's too short mode: 30mpg on a 28 mile run.
And the back of my car is now well and truly filth!

mpg and speed is not mutually exclusive.
This can also represent very bad gear selection, quick changes in speed (all within speed limits) or lots of standing traffic with your foot on the gas to keep the heated seat cooking!
.

65mpg on the run in today, grrr I hate cold mornings! (-2)
-
66.7mpg this morning on the way through to Fife from home. The M8 was pretty busy and moving about 45-50mph so that helped
-
Most i have got is 55mpg so far i am averaging 45mpg but i dont use motorways daily all a & b roads
-
Got 62.9 On the way home from work :)
-
All my driving is stop start....first few days in the GTD and I was averaging 35-36 and now a week on its gonna up to 39 odd, but a least it's heading the right direction I suppose....
-
Six months old and just passed 10k miles so Friday saw some BP Ultimate as a special special present, odly ,also just did 57mpg to the tank based on fill-up, the best yet!!!
Glad to hear your mpg is going in the right direction, the warmer weather and breaking her in will all help!

678miles...
Which part of the East Mids you from Al?
-
Weird my tank only says a range of 560 when full
-
Range on filling up will be determined by your driving style and average mpg up to that point. So filling up after a long motorway run will probably give you a higher range than if you've just done a lot of stop/start driving.

46.9 Litres = 58.1mpg over 599.1 miles, best tank yet.

-
46.9 Litres = 58.1mpg over 599.1 miles, best tank yet.
Do you actually bother with the .1 of a litre and .1 of a mile when you calculate, I don't?
Thats the stupid way that fuel is priced 147.9p per litre the minimum delivery is 2 litres so if you wanted 2 litres for a lawn mower that would cost you £2.95.8 but we don't have currency less than 1p. We know the pump reading doesn't count in .1p it just another fiddle factor.
-
till receipts with four decimal places, BOOM!
I find it stupid too, however, I did like it when the mileage read '12345' the other night, because everyone has their quirks!

Had a steady trip down to the New Forest a couple of weeks ago. A and B roads at a steady pace.
2012 GTD on 18's no a/c used.

Intestng that you don't have a one to indicate computer one. On the colour display.
-
Yes, you have a choice of either "Since start" or "Long term".
-
Well done, when is someone going to beat mine
-
What figure you on doc? I'm struggling to get over 500 miles to a tank this few weeks....
When work/life slows a little I'll get back to the hypermile. Summer days will help. 22 degrees at 8:30am this morning, Boom!
-

I don't recall seeing Since start or Long term in my MFD?

Dunno at the mo as MRS Doc has stolen her - best on a run was 73 MPG butI was driving like a saint

My best is in my signature

Never happened without the other information ie drive time, distance etc as there are some right old bull5hitters on here about MPG esp on GITs

I don't have the coloured MFD it wasn't an option when I had mine.
It would be nice to see all users on here with their car spec in their signature not just a few?

I'm a new GTD owner and I'm very interested in peoples' opinions and findings regarding remapping and improved MPG. After only a few days the GTD is exceeding my expectations on power and performance, but returning slightly less MPG than I'd hoped for. I was gunning for over 60 MPG on a motorway journey, but I'm seeing slightly less. (Still, only had it a few days so far, and the temptation to put your foot down a little harder is just too much sometimes!)
-
So many variables when it comes to MPG on any car, try this for a day and see how it works, don't rev over 2000 rpm and don't speed on any road, if your on a motorway do 60 MPH and see what you get
-

Agreed, go slower on the motorway to achieve even higher mpg. I found 54 was good, but be prepared for artics to overtake you.

See this works backward on my old PD engine. I find the more normal my driving, the better my mpg......
As Doc said though there are lots of variables. Stuff like tyre pressures, tracking etc can have an effect. To get the most, your car at the very least needs to be 100% mechanically sound. If you don't start from this point then you will be fighting a losing battle........
-
Well I've only had my car a week and it came from a reputable (I hope) VW Used Dealer, so it was all hunky dory and serviced and MoTd when I bought it. I achieved 57.5 mpg yesterday on a 35-mile mostly-motorway journey, which I'm happy with, (previous car, Citroen C4, averaged 40 mpg), but driving as gently as I was I was just hoping for over 60 mpg is all. Was quite cold I suppose, which wouldn't have helped. I like the challenge though, so I'll work on it.
I'd still love to know if getting a Remap done will likely improve the efficiency and therefore increase the mpg.
-
As per my reply above, as long as the engine is fit and healthy then yes a remap will improve the economy
Just don't expect it to over the first couple of tanks as you will be enjoying the new found performance
-
35miles is still a short run, these engines take 10 miles to warm up especially when from cold-cold, whilst they are warming up they are worse than petrol engines with regards fuel.
4 wheek tracking is a must if you do serious mileage, can pay for itself.
Mr F

Sorry Rhyso, I misinterpreted your original message, and assumed you were saying there were a lot of factors that would contribute to efficiency, whereas you were saying there are a lot of factors that would determine if a remap would improve efficiency. I see. :) (Makes me think I should perhaps assume the car is about 100%, since I've only just bought it, and get it remapped straight away!) ;)

Yeah, I've not done a decent long run yet, but it'll be a good 300 to 400 miles down to Cornwall on Friday, so I'll reset the trip when I leave and see how I get on. :) Probably be able to achieve nearly 60 mpg quite easily, until I hit all the tiny country lanes! :undecided:

No worries
If you get it done by a reputable tuner then they should carry out a full health check on the vehicle prior to remapping. This will either involve dyno time or live data logging on the road so variables such as boost, air intake and flow etc can be monitored :nerd:
A mapped GTD is a LOT of fun  Craig from Carbon runs one
-
I'd be tempted to pay to have a good health-check done on the car alone really. And driving a GTD is great fun. I just got back from a little trip into town, round a one-way system and home again. I've not gone out like that "just for the heck of it" for about 16 years!!

You're not wrong. This past week I drove down to Cornwall, then around Cornwall, then back again, and after giving the car a clean as it was filthy, I just want to go straight out again. Mind you, other half and the dog in the back meant I couldn't really do any "proper" driving, so it needs a bit of a thrash about really.

Back to the OP, I managed 58.1 MPG from Winchester to the Services on the M4 the other side of the Severn Bridge, so something along the lines of 110 miles. Stopped at the garage and damn near accidentally put Unleaded in it!!!
The elusive 60 mpg still eludes me. Remap time!

it was a 222 mile journey, 14 miles were local and the rest motorway  averaging around 68mph on the motorway.
-
Good stuff...
Now time to try and beat it....
-
That *is* good stuff, especially with a DSG. I've still not topped 60 mpg on a decent-length journey, but I think I could if I drove dangerously slowly!

Not yet its only a few months old. Need to get some warranty work done first with the alarm as it keeps going off, but yeah hoping then to get it mapped. Cant wait
-
I get 40mpg if i'm lucky - average 38.4mpg, although that doing a 15 round trip with 10 mile of it being on a A road.
-
I achieved my goal of 60+ mpg over a long distance this weekend just gone...62.4 mpg over 210 miles. Mostly on the motorway, driving like a granny. More like 46 mpg on the way home, driving "properly".
-
62.9 mpg - peaked at 63.1mpg.

Good going. Over what distance? When I went to Wales I peaked at 65 mpg by the time I came off the M4, (so about 150 miles into my journey), but then it was A and B roads for the last sixty miles or so, which didn't do my any favours.
I do think 70 mpg is achievable, but it would be dangerously slow.
-
The video shows the trip, 27 miles in 41 minutes, average in total 62.9mpg. I am still travelling at 70mph on the motorway getting that too.
Journey consists of 2 miles of 40mph. 10miles of 70mph, then 6 miles 50mph, 5 miles at 60mph then the rest at 40/30mph for the rest of it. And I pretty much stick to all of the speed limits, none of this driving at 40 in a 60. I also use the cruise control.
-
It's definitely possible:

I'm still THE DADDY!
Summer tyres going on again on Saturday, will give it another bash.
BTW 62 mpg is my best fuel tank record set in Novemeber last year.

How many miles was that?
-
The 80mpg was on a 28 mile journey on the motoray with about 10 miles of 50mph contraflow.
-
If youre very easy on the go pedal, you can get reasonable mpg figures.
Over the long weekend I did a couple of trips from London to Milton Keynes up the M1 and was able to hit 63mpg quite easily.
I was sitting mostly around the 70mph mark, with a couple of squirts to get around those annoying people who sit in the overtaking lanes but dont overtake and drive below the speed limit.
Other conversions:
27km/L
~4L/100km

I'm finding my fuel consumption has improved quite a bit since swapping my horrible Potenza tyres for some nice new F1 Eagle 2 Asymmetrics. Previously, the computer would read somewhere in the low 50s for my 20 mile trip to work (mixture of "A" roads and motorway, with some stop/start). Now, I can get high-50s or low 60s with no trouble at all (tonight I got just over 62).
If memory serves, the most I've ever got out of a tank is about 560 miles, and that's running to almost empty. Looks like I'll beat that this time.
-
Sure its not just the weather being warmer?
-
That does help, but it's never been as good as it is now. The EU rolling resistance figures are noticeably better if you compare the Potenzas to the Goodyears.
I managed to get 65mpg average a couple of days ago, and I couldn't (and never) have done that with the Potenzas, even if/when it was 30 degrees outside. The on-board computer read over 700 miles for a while as well - not seen that before.
-
Warm weather makes it worse as the air is less dense and you get less bang per litre of air.
Tail wind?
-
But warm weather does help the engine heat up faster to a more efficient state.

+1 there is even a graph in the owners manual on this.

From today, a 20 mile journey - a mixture of some stop-start, motorway (50 and 60mph) and "A" roads (50mph, stuck behind a lorry):
It peaked at 75mpg about two minutes before the photo was taken, but then I went up two hills before pulling into my driveway.
I find that warm weather does help as well.

I was thinking that too.
-
They show whether any rear passengers have their seat belts fastened. These indicators show up briefly when the car is started; for the photo, the ignition was at position 2 so the mpg reading showed up.
The indicators may show up because the seat belts are plugged in even thought the rear seats are empty (can't say for certain without venturing outside).

I've recently purchased a GTD, been camping twice, car had a minimum of 2 people and on one journey for 200 odd miles 3 people. Mixed driving and not trying to get amazing MPG. 560 miles out of a tank. Amazing when coming from a 1.8t mk4.
-
700 to a tank can be achieved.
-
Mine is currently running at around 53mpg which is about 550 to a tank.....happy with that
-
Hi,
Has anyone done a direct comparison with the Mk7 GTD?
I held off buying a Mk6 and decided to wait for the Mk7 since the fuel economy quoted seemed so much better.
Reading this and comparing to what I can get out my car things seem very different.
I am getting about 41MPG long term over the 4500 miles I have had the car and 49mpg on long motorway runs - 100 miles plus..
I have deliberately been driving conservatively to determine the cars performance but it still seems very difficult to get it over the 50mpg mark.
Quite frustrating given when is quoted in the book.
-

There must be something wrong with your calculations as I put in 53-54 litres every fill up 520-540 miles and I only get 43mpg average.

Mike_f try the mk7 tdi forum a few have changed to the mk7. Monkeyhanger has done alotmof comparison compared to his scirocco TDI he had previously.

That's what the MFD is showing with around 70 miles left on the range i.e. when the light comes on. Don't really take it any lower
-
I never trust the cars computer, I always work it out myself with the brim to brim method, which i think is how keith is also doing it.
-
Mike_f try the mk7 tdi forum a few have changed to the mk7. Monkeyhanger has done alotmof comparison compared to his scirocco TDI he had previously.
Yeah thanks - I did start a thread there, seems that the Mk7 is a bit behind the Mk6 performance which is rather disappointing..
I understand you probably can't achieve the official figures but you can't even use them for a comparison given that the mk7 state so much better than the previous generations but in real life they are worse...
-
As said 99% of car makers are building to meet EU legislations on emission rules. You build to the rules to win. Every competitor kmows this.
The way I look at it is technology's haven't changed that much in the last few years. You cannot get something for nothing. If you want more powerful engines yours going to use more fuel.
Weights another of the fudged figures.
-
That's what the MFD is showing with around 70 miles left on the range i.e. when the light comes on. Don't really take it any lower
The MFD reading is only a guestimate the only true fuel con is fill the tank, use the tank and fill it again. My memory 2 will show 48 mpg most of the time but the true mpg is only 43.
The low fuel warning will come on at around 50 miles left they will still run when it shows 0 miles again the tank sender unit its accurate either. When its on 0 you get only get 54 litres in a 55 litre tank to fill it up to the neck.
-
I get 35 mpg on average from the gtd, shortish journeys, 45 on motorway, don't know if this is normal
-
Typically get 47 per tank as calculated by fully. Only had it for about 3 tanks worth, and not doing tons of motorway miles recently. Have to admit I thought I'd get 50 easy but it's not too bad. Recently had a DSG service and it's dropped through the floor :( hoping that it adaptations just need time to get used to my driving style again.
-
Get all four wheels aligned, pay the money. I think you get it back on mpg overall.
-
I might try the wheel alignment too, and a DSG reset maybe, cause the 38 average is petrol mpg
-
Latest MPG today http://youtu.be/nKAHtlR0pHE (http://youtu.be/nKAHtlR0pHE) 70mpg in the GTD.
-
Just wondering how accurate people find the on-board fuel consumption figure for MPG? I have been finding on my first three fill ups that it is at least 5MPG off (MFD reporting 55MPG on last fill up - calculated MPG = 50).
Is this normal for this car? :undecided:
-
I would say that's about right. 5mpg down.
-
I know there has not been a recent addition to this thread, however my 2011 Golf GTD (92,000 miles) is recently new to me.
I enjoy trying a spot of Hypermiling. (Last car Skoda citigo 1.0l achieved a best figure of 87.64 mpg calculated over a distance of 748 miles full-empty using 38.80L)
I note the trip computer over reads by at least 15%.
Best figure so far was last week over 357 miles Alnwick to Crawley trip computer 83.0, calculated full-full 71.34 mpg.
Best predicted tank range seen 353 driven miles, 700 range remaining giving 1053 miles ! This is a dsg.
-
Further to my above post. Today I repeated the above journey and improved the trip computer figure to 90.1 mpg over 110 miles. Later at the end of the trip the figure was 89.0 mpg over 353 miles.
I also improved the theoretical total range, I manage to reach the maximum 1000 miles range left, with 130.7 miles already driven = total 1130.7 miles.
-
Car now owned for 2.5 years and 30,000 miles, fuel app currently shows 53.3 mpg calculated on full-full fill ups. Current mileage is 120,000. Trip computer always overeating by at least 15-20+ %. DPF regenerates every 300 miles during town driving and 400+ on longer motorway trips. Seats very comfortable when seated for 4-6 hrs +.

Hi. Just wondering if something is wrong with my MK6 golf GTD.
I’m only getting 26.5 / 27 mpg and a range of 325 miles for a full tank.
I guess something is wrong. Anyone got any ideas what could be causing it?
-

Depending on where you are, traffic and driving style, that might be OK.
For example, I live in Jersey, it’s a small island with a 40 mph speed limit. Although not a VW at the time, my old diesel car would average 25mpg and get just over 300 miles to a tank, but when driving through France, I got just short of 600 miles from a tank when I was on the motorways.
I guess I’m just trying to say that diesel isn’t always better than petrol if you make lots of short, stop and start journeys.
This is not to say you don’t have an issue, but worth considering your individual driving circumstances.
-
I use motorways more than using A roads, im just trying to find out if thats an average mpg for that model and car and if there’s an underlying issue.
Was wondering if anyone on here has had same issue and had it fixed
-
I would guess you have a problem, on a motorway as the speed limit you should be getting around 50mpg depending upon the temp outside 45-55 winter v summer.
Does it smell of burnt plastic as the only thought is that it could be stuck in a regen mode, the mpg really takes a hit when that is active.
Have you checked to make sure the brakes are not binding.
-
I haven’t checked the brakes but i can smell something like plastic burning..
