I think Quinn have gone into receivership and are not allowed to write new business.

i went with quinn first year with a 1.4 mk3 golf and it was £1400, just got my 1 year ncb and upgraded to a mk2 1.8 driver, renewal from quinn (as they are taking on new business once again) is £1250 which is miles cheaper than anyone else.

Word of warning, don't actually buy a car until you have a fully valid insurance quote - One that has any mods declared and is 100% honest.

I know a lad who just bought a mk3 polo, a lot of cosmetic mods and a different 1.3 engine as well as some other stuff.. Put loads of work into it before he passed his test at 17. Came round to sorting insurance out and it was sky high so he's sold it on.

I paid £1250 4 years ago to insure my 1.4 ibiza at 17.. Now at 21 I'm paying the same amount to insure a 16v mk2 golf with a few basic mods! :(

Has to be a golf 1.3 mate, I'll post pics of mine. I'm 22 with 1 years NCB and even with mods insurance isn't too bad! It's alarmed now too so that helps a little.

My son is 17 and I bought a MK2 1.6 driver for him @ £360.00 (Ebay) and we have insured it for both of us (so he's a named driver).

I had a policy that I was not using which had 9 years NCB and he found that Coverbox was the cheapest coming in at £980.00 Fully Comp... With this they also fit a tracker so they can see when & where he is driving and if he does more than the stated 10K a year it will go up in price but if he does less mileage it will come down (Very Little I Guess)...

He has had a claim already and they are paying us £900.00 to get it fixed and arn't listing it as a Cat C or Cat D....

I'll post some pics of my MK2 Golf mate, (Ken - maybe put some of your sons on here too, although they're almost identical lol).
Really think a Golf is the way forward! 1.3's seem a lot rarer, especially in decent colours (If I didn't have a red one I'd want a white one) but there's a few drivers about and as Ken said, they're not expensive to buy or run!
