Title: MK3 GTi 8v ECU No Communication

So, Christmas Day my car cuts out on the motorway - no warning signs. I’m recovered home.

I’m not so mechanically minded but had a look a few days later; it will crank but will not start. I’m getting no fuel and no spark at the plugs. My neighbour is a mechanic for Audi and has plugged it into his diagnostics but reads something along the lines of “cannot connect to ECU”.

I have replaced the ECU relay and coil pack so far.

The crankshaft sensor was replaced around 4 months ago. My neighbour had ordered this from Germany as he could not find a good quality one here.

Any other common failures or pointers of where to look next? Any help is appreciated.

Which engine code is it? 2E, AGG, ADY?

Does it have an alarm? Factory fitted by any chance?
