Got a 1989 gti big bumper in black it is a 5 door but body is really good condition has a big folder of history have fixed a fare few things all ready window mechanism,whole sunroof assembled,speedo cable,gear selector fork,thermostat and loads of broken trim bits thing is is it worth more to keep as original as poss or do an engine conversion. Currant engine runs ok and pulls well does smoke a little on acceleration and has a bit of oil leak think its rocker cover is it worth rebuild currant of engine swop (1.8t) I was thinking any thoughts

If you are building the car for yourself, then which would you prefer?
If you are doing it to sell after a year or so, there will be plenty of people that would like it to be original, equally there would be plenty of people in the market for a well converted car. Either way, don't expect to get back anywhere near the amount of money you'll put into it.
