Which CD changer
« on: 29 August 2007, 15:33 »
Bit ignorant on electrical ICE so any help appreciated. Car is a 1998 mk3 Golf GTI 16v.  I have a 13 pin male round connection in the boot coming from a Sony head unit in the dash. I presume this is to attach a CD changer. Trouble is I do not know which CD changer is compatible. A quick search on fleabay gives loads of Sony CD changers, but which one... and does the lead fit?
Anyone have a Golf mk3 Sony head unit and a CD changer fitted with the 13 pin connection? If so, what is the make and model?

Thanks in anticipation

I'd have thought they'd all be compatible (sony) I know you can use any Pioneer Changer with any pioneer head unit (there's P series & M series but  )   JVC are all interchangable too

If you pick up a brochure or check their website you should be able to confirm, actually Pioneer do adaptor leads so you can use most big name cd changers with their head units.  Surely sony do similar

I think the 13 pin round connection/lead is the problem here. I assume the one I have connects to the head unit and exits, as aforesaid, in the boot. As far as I can tell, none of the Sony CD changers on e-bay etc take this 13 pin round connection.

The previous Blaupunkt I had in an Audi also had this connection, but female, not male. You just plugged it in using a similar lead and it worked from the head unit.

Many of the changers also have 2 other wires for audio. I have no facility to plug these in anywhere.

Just to clear a few things up .

1, Cambridge audio may be a British company, but I think you'll find that most of their kit is manufactured in China.

2, Genesis car audio are most definitely British, and produce some truly stunning equipment in the UK, and also offer customer service which  is second to none.  Not cheap, but well worth the outlay.
