What's the MFD saying for your average mpg? mine with the temperatures just now driving like a "Vicar" is 54mpg, it's stage 1 Revo. Never fill it up but just about 3/4 it shows what yours says on full. Sell the darn thing after the Dispatches program on diesel fuel last night.....we're about to become persecuted!
-
I love mine, full leather the works but I am just upset about the 390 on fuel. If I need to replace anything I will. I stupidly ran it down to 10mins and put £50 in on friday which took me up full tank (on last needle) and then drove 79 miles and its gone 1/4 already (to the 3rd thicker line counting backwards from full). Do I need a new senser?
The MPG is saying about 45.0 on setting 1 and setting 2 33.0mpg it was but have no reset it
-
Seems to me you've got 2 options: 1 fill the tank up, reset the trip, run it take the mileage and fill to the brim, take the fuel and do the maths: option 2 think you own a Subaru STI thingy and be glad you don't have to fill that bad boy up!
-
Done that but still about 390 or 400....but no where near 600!! I am using Shell Fuel but its mad how much I am going through to be honest - yes it isn't motorway from Stourbridge to Birmingham and inbetween sites but to use THAT much fuel for 79 miles is NUTS! I haven't even opened the car up. Maybe the MAF senser is dead?

The range to empty is based on the average fuel consumption over the last few miles driven. So for example if you have driven 10miles across town from a cold start averaging 35mpg, then brim the tank, the car will display a range to empty of 420 miles, by assuming that you are going to maintain the same level of consumption. However if you drive uber economically after that, you could see your displayed range to empty climb to 800 odd miles within a few miles.
Also when you say you put £50 in the other night, was that full to the click on the pump plus a bit more, or £50 and it said full on the gauge when you started it up? If mines full to the click, it will do over 100 miles before the gauge moves off full. If you hadn't brimmed it, that could account for a fair few miles knocked off your range.
As Golfhappy said, fill it to the brim, reset MFD Trip 2 and drive around as normal until the light comes on and see how many miles you have done then.
Driving style, however economically you think you are being could have something to do with it too. My mate reckoned he couldn't average any more than 42mpg from his 140 DSG Superb and didn't believe me when I told him I got 55mpg from my 140 DSG Passat. I said it was his driving. One day as a test we swapped cars and did the same 40 miles journey, him following me. I got 52mpg from his car, where he only managed 45mpg in mine. Go figure.

Cheers peeps. 50 I put in and the tank read full it didn't click at all on the pump.
Should I leave the car to run a little before using it? Maybe 2 mins then drive off.
-
if your gauge is like mine it takes a long time to start to drop, so 50 wont have filled it and it will drop away quicker.
I can get 100 miles plus before it drops below the 7/8th line
only proper way to tell what your cars doing is Brim it, record miles, empty, fill, miles and calculate
think there is even summat on facebook that does it all for ya but i am geeky and keep my own record

Why would you do that? You'll use 2 minutes worth of fuel doing no miles. Therefore reducing your average mpg even more. A diesel engine gets up to temperature much quicker by driving it.
-
The range sounds about normal TBH for short runs/ town usage. I've found my MPG varies massively depending on the driving. On the motorway I normally see 55 but in town it can drop as low as 30.
-
I don't know I just thought maybe leave it to warm up May use less fuel but clearly not.

Mine moves regardless of filling it quickly somehow a drinker! yet half a tank or less it does hold the needle a little longer....confusing the situation even more!
So 10miles left haven't driven it like a mad person, put £50 took me to 'full' Guage status of 390 miles. I drove nice and gently and done 79 miles it moves 3 thick lines up! I am still baffled at that! Wished I had my mk4 tdi 130 as that seemed to be better and was remapped!
Do u think it needs vagcom or is this generally how a GTD acts? Short journeys I do at min well anything between 5 to 15 miles between sites...
-
What MPG does the screen say you're getting? As obviously that is directly correlational to the tank range.
-
10 miles left probably means there is about 5 litres left in the tank. £50 at £1.13 per litre is 44 litres meaning you'll have 49 litres in the tank. A full tank is 55 litres plus whatever extra it takes to fill the filler neck, so you are probably 7 or 8 litres of diesel short of a full tank to begin with.
None of us can really comment further until you do the sums properly using the brim to brim method.
