Hic insurance rip off!!!!! beware fellow dubbers
« on: 28 April 2009, 13:36 »
just phoned these guys and beware of their tactics on insurance

young man down sarrf quoted me nearly £470 pounds to renew a cabriolet mk 1 , i told him that the person before me had insured this for £225, but he

was not interested and claimed they never looked at other peoples policies for information

i was only trying to help as my car was a special case being an import, anyway  he then comes back to me and asks for the details(information) :rolleyes:

he claimed  the person insured the same vehicle  as a mk 2 gti  and it should have never been
processed  but it was, however my quote of £470  stood , this is a joke!

ok i realise that the information was not valid but such an amount is ridiculous and shows that hic have not got a clue other than to rip people off

a renewal policy with hic 3rd party fire and theft £278.31  :embarassed:  on a cabriolet and hey ho   fully comp with footman james £210.05  :grin:

if any hic members are reading this you guys are ripping decent folk off

i have been with you guys before but never again

What might be £470 for you might be half the price for someone else. Insurance is done on a person by person basis so its a bit harsh on HIC to say they "rip people off" just because they turned out to be expensive for you.

I know for a fact that a lot of people have had a lot of joy from HIC.

Note that Footman James are VERY specific when it comes to insurance people which is probs why they are cheaper. It insure with them under their classic car policy you must:

# The vehicle is over 15 years of age
# The vehicle must be garaged at night
# The vehicle is being used for social domestic and pleasure (including commuting) only
# The vehicle has not been modified from the manufacturer's standard specification
# The vehicle is not a grey or parallel import including US imports
# The vehicle is not valued at more than £50,000
# The vehicle is not a van, pickup, Motor Home or any other commercial vehicle
# All drivers hold a Full UK or EU driving licence and have done so for a minimum of 5 years
# No drivers have made any claims or had any accidents in the past 3 years
# All drivers must be aged between 25 and 74
# No driver has more than one fixed penalty speeding conviction
# UK post codes only (excluding Northern Ireland)
# The vehicle is owned and registered to yourself
# No driver is employed in any of the following occupations:

    * Entertainment, Radio or TV presenter
    * Celebrity
    * General Dealers
    * Courier or Delivery drivers
    * Debt collectors
    * Money lender
    * Professional Sports persons
    * Unemployed persons

These guys were on my list for when I get my GTi, but will add them to the bottom now. Especially for the differences in prices.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

sounds like you are an employee or have friends who work for them, either that or you are a baffoon to argue this point i make

footman james seem to be fair and that is what every person wants ..................is it not?

lol you appear to have anger issues towards HIC.

I actually tried to get a quote off them but went with another company as HIC were too expensive (ohhh the irony)

I just think its a little unfair to bad mouth them just because they weren't cheap for me.

I fail to see how having a list as long as your arm with a criteria you MUST comply to is fair lol. I think all drivers must be over 25 is unfair as Im not over 25. Or your car must be in the garage as my garage is full of sh!t lol. Its hardly fair to discriminate against people that don't have a garage but this far from the point. Again we come back to different companies meeting the needs of different people.

I dont work for HIC

i dont know anyone who does

I am not a baffoon

I do however have 2 policies with them, but i ONLY go on quotes from other companies for comparision on the SAME vehicle,

 NOT from what ex owners / other forum members / internet heros / etc etc

and they were CHEAPER than footman James / brentacre to name but two - hecne why they got my business.

For all you know the person before sold you up the river saying he got insurance for that amount.  :grin:

my classic policy was reduced DOWN from over £300 cos i garaged the car, and reduced my annual mileage.  its now £210 - doesnt mean the next owner will get that price.  :wink:

Seriously though, can't believe you're moaning about £500 or less, I'd kill for that atm, paying £1K.

HIC aren't always the cheapest BUT the policy includes a lot of stuff others leave out.
