Basically with a lease you’re paying the depreciation so if a car has sting residuals it’ll be cheap on the monthlies.
This is where VW goofed with the mk7 R basing their projected retained value on the previous gen R so offered a load of cheap leases in 2014/5 which became so popular it conversely killed the residuals and image of the car. VW quickly realigned prices afterwards but compared to a GTI an R has often looked better value.
Another thing to consider is manufacturers will do promotions on certain models occasionally, be it because sales have dipped, excess stock or possibly even in retaliation to a rival marque to drum up business.
Leon Cupras have been outstanding value recently.
And as fredgroves said, maybe it was just bait.
