looking good...shame about the issues already...hope you have deep pockets with that mpg though  :lipsrsealed:

i dont mind the fuel bills, at least i will be using it! a bit annoyed as we havent had chance to investigate the overheating issue.

I think things will be love/hate for a while until i sort everything out.

Things still to do:
- sort overheating problem - i have sourced a Febi 75 degree t/stat and new rad fan switch (as currently fans run off an independant dash switch)
- secure centre console as using the mk3 vr6 shifter some of the original mounting holes have been removed, and secure/remake the start button/fuel pump switch panel
- secure the clocks centrally within the dash as theyre off centre
- get the dash clock indicator warning lights working. indicators work fine but the dash bulbs dont illuminate (MOT fail)
- source a steering wheel boss as currently i have no horn (MOT fail) and the indicators dont self-cancel
- source a NSF outer lower window seal as the one fitted is not a mk2 item, and water runs into the door
- source side skirts, retaining clips and support strips (anyone have some for sale?)
- find another MIM centre cap!
- bind up the engine bay wiring with self-amalgamating tape as the wires arent protected at the mo!

one thing at a time i suppose

oh the list goes on...

Cooling problem has now been sorted, turns out it was a sticky thermostat and the seal had disappeared on the rad cap  - a bit of a double whammy! so it was getting too hot and not holding any pressure  :undecided:

Also fitted the rad fan switch so all is well.

BUT

now it seems i have a faulty brake light switch (brake lights stay on unless i pull the pedal up a bit) and potentially a brake servo issue, as you can hear a hissing behind the dash when running which disappears when you touch the brake pedal  :undecided:

ARGH.

still, its a mk2 vr6 which sounds lush

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

She is now called Christine, not after my own name, but after that of the haunted car from the Stephen King novel (then film) of the same name! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085333/  :afro:

"She was born bad. Plain and simple. Somewhere deep on a darkened assembly line. Christine. A '92 Volkswagen Golf VR6 possessed by Hell."

Most of the MOT parts are now sourced, tbh the parts themselves are relatively cheap. Sourced a brand new lift pump for £30 delivered, steering boss for £30 (currently the indicators dont self-cancel and i have no horn). Got rear pads, rear wheel bearings and rear brake hose through work nice and cheap

D-Day is next thursday...

Right then, a bit of an update:

Failed on 17 items including-

- Rear pads too low
replace rear pads and rear calipers as piston boot has split on NSR

- Rear wheel bearing buggered
replace wheel bearings both sides, plus rear discs

- No horn
Needs new steering boss with horn push, plus need to wire a horn in

- No indicator tell-tales (indicator bulbs in clocks not illuminating)
solder new wires between indicator left/right on fuse box to indicator bulb left/right on dash plug

- Rear beam bushes (fallen apart, central metal tube had cracked in 2 pieces!)
Fit new rear beam bushes (Done)

- Various brake lines (flexi and pipes) needed clipping up properly
Reattach using genuine clips as necessary (Done)

- Emissions 0.5% too high on CO
Hopefully pass on the day with an italian tune-up, if not possibly a lambda sensor fault

- Headlamp aim high/low on both head lamps
adjust on MOT retest

- Small patch of welding required near front subframe
weld as necessary

We were meant to be doing rear pads/discs/bearings today but the NSR caliper has a split piston boot so im being anal and replacing BOTH rear calipers for recon units. We were going to weld today however the unpredictable weather has gotten the better of us  All MOT repairs need to be done by Tuesday, and we're due more crap weather!!

Also the front grill has 1 good clip left so i will be refitting the mesh type grill for the moment (you may remember it from benrev's pics). I'm fed up of cable tieing it  :lipsrsealed:

YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!

MOT failures now rectified, christine is fully roadworthy  :lipsrsealed: Got the pass ticket in my hands at 6pm this evening.

took pot-luck with the emissions, failed CO @ 4.0% 2 weeks ago and now passed @ 3.3%, so still high but a pass none-the-less. Possibly wants a lambda sensor.

Now i need to seal the sunroof as the f***er leaks and gives me a wet bum! Any know a good (reasonably priced) outlet for sunroof seals?

Shes due a tidy up over the weekend weather permitting, so more pics to come.
