Which tape head unit + cd changer???
« on: 13 September 2003, 21:09 »
Hi all,

I want to get a CD changer for my Mk2 gti, with a tape head unit to get the best of both worlds...(Mini-discs just aren't for me).

So I've been looking around and found a JVC package on the Car Audio Website for ?149.99 with a 12 cd changer (the worlds smallest apparently).

The model number quoted is JVC-CHPK742R (not sure whether this is the tuner or the changer).

Any way - I don't need anything fancy, so is this a good deal?

If not any suggestions?
I'd like a 10 disc changer minimum...

Thanks

Ryan.

Just had installed an Alpine Rad/cass tda 7588RB with an Alpine S634 MP3/CD multi changer  this very morning - will let you know how it is by the end of the week.

It costs abit - but remember the old saying.

Installing CD changer and Head Unit.

Right,

Just got my new cd changer - now I have to figure out how to install it!

There doesn't seem to be too much to read...

But I was wondering where's the best place to locate the cable connecting the two?

The changer will be in the boot.
Is it best just to run it under the carpet/then back seat??

And what about when it goes behind the dash?
Is it easy to install the cable from the radio 'gap' down the back of the dash?

Any tips?

Oh - it's going into a mark 2. ;)

Thanks.

run the cables under the carpet down the side of the door. pull off the plastic to holds the carpet down down the sides. No need to go under the seat really. just go round and mount the changer on the drivers side.

you'll need to pull your old headunit out to plug in the changer bus lead and signal lead. then run the 2 cables under the dials over the steering bit and cable tie them up for extra neatness :)

if you're handy with a jigsaw you can make 2 panels to square off the boot like I have. then mount the changer in that.

I'm about to pull mine out again!

Just bought a Kenwood MP3 headunit so the Sony MD + 10 disc is coming out.

Well I installed my new cd changer and head unit on Saturday. ;D
It was much easier than I thought & I'm well chuffed.

Can't even see the cable & I thought I'd be forever snagging it, but its neatly tucked under the plastic side sill trim. 8)

Drove to the E38 show spoilt for choice CDs/Tape/radio.

I'm still getting a poor reception on MW though. :-\
Could this be anything to do with my aftermarket bee-sting?
Any ideas? ???
