Title: R you ready
Post by: the_stink on 14 July 2009, 14:09
So after playing with other ideas of how to have more power and fun i have come to the conclusion that there really is only one option

Mkiv R32

Ive pined after one for years and given the current market this is prob the best tiem to sell my 1.8T and get the best possible price for it, as much i adore my GTI i know i will simply be blown away by the R

Runnign costs are goign to be roughly the same and ins will go up but you only live once and will be the onyl time i get to own one plus the fact that they have discontinued the R32 engine

going to a garage tonight to see what they will give me in px on a deep pearl blur 32 they have

spec is :

£10999

wouldn't you be better off waiting until your insurance is due?? will pay less overall in insurance costs and admin fees  :undecided:

I know well havent decided if this R is the one as mentioend need to see what they offer me if they can give me a 'good' price then overall might be worth going ahead as when renewal is due in oct may not get the same deal etc :P

It will and I wont. I know the V6 sounds nice but the with the new R producing roughly the same if not more power with MUCH improved efficiently in the form of a 2.0T engine its a no brainer from VWs side of the things. Id love to own "proper" V engined car but just cant justify it with the amount of miles I do :(

My MK5 will easily hold its own against an R32 yet I will EASILY get 10 - 15 more MPG constantly over the 3.2 . . . .  :undecided:

Stink, sounds like an epic idea ! Canny wait for you to get it :D Good man.

Title: Re: R you ready
Post by: the_stink on 14 July 2009, 19:09
update

so went down to the garage so the guys could have a look over my golf

they had a nose around and asked how much i wanted again i said 6k for it, cue the 'well i cant give you that mate' so i asked whats the best price you would give me whilst not loosing eye contact with him until he turned away hahah

he said 'max i will give you is 5k' and that is the most i would go too, said you have got a very tidy car here and the only reason id give you 5 max is because i had a nice set of wheels on it, so food for thought shook hands said id be in contact

so next stage ring insurance

im with Bell so rang up, now when i took out my policy opted for this 10 month ncd bonus accelerator policy but then thought thats not good as when i come to move my NCD wont be valid so swiftly changed it to 12 months

now the good bit, chatting tot eh guy very helpful had a good natter about the car , when i changed the policy form 10 - 12 months they didn't amend the payments so it was stretched over a 10 month period, matey said well your finally payment is in august and you are covered until November so two options IF i got the r32 pay the final sum in august which would be 225 and im covered up till novemeber or spread the remaining payments out till nov and pay £75 a month on a R32

by which point i would have 1 ncd and can really shop around for the best price

so the only thing now is the finace agreement to look at but if im honest they give me 5k for my car im taking the R32

going to nose at it properly tomorrow but soon i might really be going like stink!!

Very good work mate!  Surely you can get an R32 for less than £11k though!
Title: Re: R you ready
Post by: alex160 on 14 July 2009, 19:51
ive seen ones for 8k but i suppose its the usual saying, you get what you pay for. Although if your buying from a garage then they will be more expensive then private sale as there trying to make as much profit as poss. But when your looking around for a motor in that price range its defo worth having a good look round and not to buy the first one you see, however nice it is

Post by: dubcruiser on 14 July 2009, 19:51
I have been looking at them for a while now (more Mk5 though) and the prices have gone up over the last 3 months. That car though Joe is expensive to be honest. You are better off selling yours private (and you would get £5k if you waited long enough) and buying the R32 private. At the end of the day it about the cost to change and £6k seems steep for a car that has 20k more miles on it and is only a year newer.

The fuel cost on them are awful. I thought that it would be similar when I bought my 4 Motion but boy was I wrong. That would do 25mpg on average where as the 1.8T does 35mpg on average. Over time those extra 10miles adds up!

I am not saying don't get one, but I would say you are may be rushing in it a bit

ahh i don't think you saw my point.. 5k is wayyy more than a dealer would hand over unless he's offsetting it against the profit on the R32, which he probably got for 8k. Barter the price down before you even mention part exchange

ahhh right got ya! ahh the art of haggling so its down at 10999 what do you think I could get them down too ? if say i could get them down to 9,999 or even 9500 that would be safe but not sure if that's going to happen

And I know some may think im mad wanting to sell my GTI but this is really going to be the only opportunity i will get to own a R you only live once

Not at all.. you can either look at it as 5k for yours and 11k purchase.. or 3.5k for yours and 9.5k purchase which is pretty much bang on pricing. It's the right car, it's local.. i found an ad for it on pistonheads and it looks tidy enough (saggy driver seat, even the new ones suffer that!).. what are you waiting for?

yeah thats the thing when you look at it like that 9.5k isnt bad at all well going to have a nose around it on lunch and see where I go from there ill let you guys know ;)

well also checked and the settlement on my finace is £2,600

so that means finace i will be looking at is £8,599 for the car which in my mind isnt bad at all just need to see what rate i can get the finace on really

You get 48mpg mate? thats pretty good!
I achieved 33mpg driving from london to the isle of wight the other day with a few blasts and some high constant speeds!

I agree a mapped gti is pretty much bang on with an R32, watching the headlights of mapped leon cupra vanish in my rear view last night in the rain, as i gripped and went is when you remember just how nice 4wd is. I have had a run with the same car before and i was neck and neck in the dry.

Oh with regards to values going down, a guy bought one when they dropped for £20k new (mk5) kept it for 4 months then traded it for an RS4 for £22K! Thats a £2k profit and free motoring for 4 months

well went and viewed the car again on my lunch had a good look around, in very good condition engine bay nice and clean as well, turned the car over and well that V6 sound is just sex hahah interior is very tidy and in excellent condition

the main thing now is looking at what finace deal they can do for me if its too much then i wotn go ahead but with all things considered and with aready havign an agreement with Black horse im sure that the deal wotn be too bad

not really much more and the road tax is cheaper!!!

basically i had my payments spread over 10 months instead of 10 as bell didnt amend the payments when i changed the policy to the full 12 months

so its works out for the next 3 months until my renewal date its going to cost me £75 a month!!!

excitement hasn't sunk in

How much did it cost in fuel to make that video clip then?

Sounds spot on that!

Look forward to seeing the photo's, you got any ideas who the previous owner was, may be worth posting on r32oc and seeing if you can find out a little more on what has been done, never know might have a few more tricks up it's sleeve!

Also, if it aint already, get it de-locked! Don't wanna come out to find your interior missing in the morning!

might be different for the mk4 .. but i find 4000rpm to  be the 'magic' figure. Go over it for mental performance, stay below it for a bit more economy.
