Got some rallye headlights on my mk2 but they need alligning.
The drivers side high beam points up and to the left and the passenger side shines straight at the road about a meter infront of the car.
Ive taken it to a garage but they couldnt do anything with them.
Does anyone know a "headlight specialist" or something like because i dont fancy breaking them.
-
Aren't these all for Left Hand Drive Cars Only???
-
Good point Ken, I would say the vast majority would be, however would the few officially imported cars have RHD lights?
-
yea i think they are LHD but they lights are miles out if its left or right hand drive.
if i was driving in france I'd blind HGV drivers
Oh yea im between huddersfield and brighton all the time so can travel. :)
-
They give off such sh!te light, hard to believe they blind anything TBF. :lipsrsealed:
-
lol i hear that! Got an uprated headlight wiring loom but not fitted yet and getting some foglights aswell.
Really want them to light the road before messing with the wiring though. Right now they just light up the trees im driving past...
-
Rallye lights are switchable between LHD & RHD there is a screw on the back of them which moves the projector
-
Good to know about switchin sides but they just need sortin so they point at the road...or at least somethink like.
i can barely see where to go on an unlit road

This.
Ask on Dubforce how they adjust. Someone on there will know, unless one of the great and good on here knows it, but I don't think they swing by through this section very often.
-
Don't they adjust with two screws like most other headlights then? One for up and down and one for left to right.
-
No, the projector unit rotates slightly in the housing.

How would VW have got away with selling them in the UK?

20 year ago - maybe a bit of black tape on the lens....
-
No tape required. Even tells you how to change them in the manual

Instead of picking holes in my answer why dont you post up a copy of your instructions... :afro:
-
One was easily done, one requires a scanner :santa:
-
anyone here got a set of these lights or know how to upload pics onto this cos then i could show what im dealing with.
-
they have adjusters on the back
-
there should be some of these on the back of each light that controls the alignment:

then separately you can change the projector position from lhd to rhd - if these lights have been in use and on the car for a while though, I would have thought that wouldn't be the problem.
-
do you know if these will work for the high beam also? thats the one thats out by the most.
how do you upload pics to a reply?
-
Might be stating the obvious but if the image is that bad then have you checked that the bulb is seated in the light properly.
The amount of cars that come through the mot station with this problem is unreal!
Generally modern cars though where the bulbs are a nightmare to change
-
ive had the lights on and played about with the bulb position and the only way to get the beam in the right sort of direction is when its out of its seating but then the holding clip cant be put over the bulb.
This is why im willing to pay for someone to sort this for me who might have a better idea

I have done a little 'how to' on adjusting rallye headlights..
Firstly check that you have them set either to RHD or LHD.
This can be changed by slackening the three screws marked here in Yellow, and rotating the projector housing.
This is marked L/S and R/S, this is referring to what side of the road the car is being driven on, not what hand drive it is!

It will probably be easier to remove the headlight to do this, they are only held in with four screws.
Then the actual beam adjustment.
This is done by turning the adjusters marked here in this pic, the red arrows are dipped beam adjustment, one up and down, one left and right (not sure which is which, have to turn one and see which way the beam moves!)
The green arrows are for main beam adjustment.

Dippeds beam are easy, just turn the thumbwheels by hand. Main beam can be adjusted through the slam panel with a suitably sized phillips screwdriver.
pics explain all..

Hope this is of help!!
