what is a 3 door 1.6 16v worth, yes 3 door.
« on: 18 January 2015, 21:41 »
Turns out my 3 door 1.6 16v is a RHD import from wolfsburg, with cruise control, arm rest A/C etc etc.
Sadly I have to make a claim (no fault of my own) and feel the offer I got was way low, so looked around for other 3 door 16v 1.6 and can't find any.

So how do I argue my case, that the offer they gave me was a bit low as I enjoyed all the extras my car had plus the fact its a 3 door not a 5 door like all the others I see, or do they not put this in to account.

Cheers in advance.

If anything the 3 door was CHEAPER than 5 door. Fact that it is an import, despite RHD may also be an issue.

How much did they offer?

I would see it valued as less than a 2.0 8v.... has less power even though it's 16v.
Other than that it would depend on the condition, for comparison try to find another 1.6 16V, never mind the number of doors.

The long and short of it is to the insurers it's just like any other old car. Options and door count mean nothing.

I'm guessing we are talking a couple of hundred pounds between their valuation and what you think it's worth, rather than thousands. You ought to be able to get them to up their offer a small amount, but unless you have a classic/agreed value policy from a specialist insurer, it is what it is.
