« on: 12 June 2007, 15:49 »
Hey all,
im looking of changing my 1.8 for a 2.0 16v but am looking on some guidance if i purchase one. With a remap or getting it chipped what sort of change in bhp would i be looking at from the standard 150bhp they come as??
Anyone done this to thier own and see the differnce?
Many thanks

Use the £400 odd squid and have your head Ported and Polished and get some wilder cams, been advised that this is better than a remap on its own.

barndogg yeh i have more pics if you want to see them i can send you them if you want.PM me or something.Iv got my back three done.Tempted to do the front two aswell but with going to cruises etc not wanting to run the risk of getting pulled and fined.

Ahh ok then sounds like that could be a better idea than a remap then.I should have the money to spend on tuning it if i go for a 16v as im selling my downhill bike aswell  all be worth it for a mint 16v though...i hope lol.

Thanks for advice, anymore would be great.

It was Jodi at MidlandVW who advised against the chip on its own and suggested that better gains would be made with head work. Get the usual cat-back zorst and filter which should cost £400 for both then take things from there........coming from a 1.8 a standard 16v is gonna seem fast, maybe that will keep you contented for a while.

Let me know how you get on and what you decide as i would be interested.

A chip/remap will generally give you 10% extra.
Couple that with a filter and a cat back exhaust and you are looking at the same as a Vr6 (174 bhp) approximately!

I'd go for the head work and cams. I can't see both being done for £400 though. Valvers have 2 cam shafts remember so cams are double the price!

cheers for all the replies people.Good to hear what sort of price and options i have open to me.Well if i get it standard i will fit the normal induction kit and cat back exhaust system, maybe even de-cat sytem.

As you say though i will obviously feel he differnce in power even with a standard one compared to my 1.8 just now.

I shall see how things go as i need to get my 1.8 sold first. All going well though i should have the 2.0 16v in the next few weeks/months.

Scott.
