Title: Performance Clutch Upgrade
Post by: MjrSharpe on 09 January 2020, 11:41
Hi all. I ordered a Sachs organic clutch upgrade for my car. It arrived today and will be fitted in a couple of weeks all being well. Is there a run in procedure for this ? I've never had an upgraded clutch before. Thanks.

When I had mine fitted last year I asked the same question on the Sachs website and was told to bed it in for 500 - 750 km of regular road driving i.e. not motorways. Don't give it WOT on high gears at low revs, especially if going up a hill. When I ran my clutch in I kept the revs under 4K.

Heat is the enemy, as the clutch can glaze over if it gets too hot before its broken in and then it will just slip and need replacing.

That's great, many thanks for you help. I'll make sure to stick to your points when I get it in the car :) how do you find it compared to stock? Is it heavier at all?

Initially it did feel stiffer ... perhaps 20% more but after 200 miles I no longer noticed any difference.

I just had one fitted yesterday. Heavier and less slip as expected but easy enough to drive and get used to. Seems to have a higher bite point too. Bit juddery setting off and reversing but it should bed in fine. What’s the thoughts after a while? Improvement after run in?

My Sachs smells a fair bit but not no slip and slight judder , guess it’s the pay off from upgrading

Thanks for the replies guys. I've had the clutch in for about 250 miles now and it has bedded in well already. Very small degree of judder in reverse but that's really it. There does however seem to be more noise from the transmission in neutral. This disappears when the clutch pedal is pressed so I wonder if it is a release bearing issue. I had it replaced with the clutch though, unless its a faulty one. Has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks,
