110 ALH/AFN/ASV the same?
« on: 10 June 2013, 23:12 »
After the headgasket went recently on my ALH and caused hydraulic lock, seizing the engine, I'm looking to replace it.
Are the ALH/AFN and ASV engines the same?
I cant seem to find any difference? Can I use either without wiring changes?
Thanks

different internally as the asv has oil jets under the pistons. unsure of the afn engine as i think theyre from a passat so mounted the other way round

So would it just be a case of putting the mounts from the ALH onto the AFN (if I went for an AFN)?
In terms of fitting a new engine, sounds like the ASV is just as good or wouldnt require extra work?
Thanks

asv is the better engine, its slightly newer and it also the oil jet thingies. they should all physically fit, so yes just swap over mounts and all your manifolds etc from your existing engine, but thats only if you get and engine that was mounted longways rather than sideways. oh also yoll have to swap the sump for your original too if its originally mounted longways.best to stivk to an alh or asv id say as its a like for like swap
i think i love you.....

Thanks Dan, I'll look for an ALH or ASV then!
Much appreciated.
