It came yesterday , haven't had a chance play with it properly as yet but first impressions are very good :) huge compared to my 400D and alot heavier

First thing to do is go through all the menus and switch everything off  :grin:

One major improvement between the two, usability wise, is the change from a d-pad to a rotary dial for all the menu options. Makes it much quicker, particularly when scrolling through photos.

Oh and get a move on, we want pics  :laugh:

How much heavier?

My 450D is quite heavy I think.

True although you can use the scroll wheel on the grip to do the same on the 400D. It's not as good but better than using the D pad.

I'm looking to upgrade from my 400D to a used 40D later in the year and like you Joe willbe keeping my 400D as a backup/spare camera. I go to a lot of events where having 2 cameras on the go is really handy. One with the long zoom fitted and the other with the 50mm fitted, saves changing lenses!

thats the biggest advantage just pick the other camera up and snap no missed moments :)

556g vs 524g vs 822g for 400D, 450D and 50D

The 50D has the metal body and pentaprism opposed from plastic body and pentamirror, which account for most of the additional weight.
