The standard GTI is up on the Irish configurator. Few things to note:

- rear camera is standard.
- winter pack (heated front seats etc) is standard.
- the illuminated grill, VW badge, IQ lights etc are standard.

Then there is this “black pack”. There was a black pack on the MK8 too but it was pretty minimal. Black mirror caps and red stripe replaced with black. I think it was about €450. On the 8.5 it also includes darker headlamp housings. You can see it in those videos linked above. But it’s down as €1600 on the configurator here! Bit mad. Surely it must include something more than darker headlamp units and mirror caps… I wonder does it include a black roof (again as per those videos).

Black Pack has a descent look with new GTI. They show all the demo cars with a black pack for a reason  because the headlights look so much better being darkened. Adding black mirrors as well.

I really like it. The gloss black treatment lifts things a lot, it should have been done like this on the MK8 too imo. The headlights while only subtley different, do look better imo, that awkward curve as it meets the grill has been straightened out! The bumper, intakes etc all look suitably more aggressive too.

I’m surprised the door stripe remains the same half assed effort though!

Then in the interior, it’s the same new infotainment that’s in the new Tiguan, ID4, Passat. And having experienced it for about a month now in my wife’s ID4 I can confirm it’s a joy to use compared to the MK8 system.

If its happened for a while check you don't also have an oil leak from between the gearbox and engine under the car. When the pcv valve goes and the pressure rises it trys to vent at the weakest point. Sadly this often ends up being the rear main  seal and it fails.

It happened suddenly on a journey this week, didn't get to work, turned back and went home. Of course it could have been failing for months without making a noise?

Hopefully there is no main seal failure, but thank you for letting me know. I will call the garage and ask them to check when they fit it on Monday.

New rear caliper and wheel speed sensor done and back to normal, even the MPG has gone up so brakes must have been binding for weeks.

New problem, driver door will not lock so new catch will be fitted next week. Been randomly clicking for months and the orange door lock light was not coming on.

Link not working for me?
haha, yes, it is now deleted and it's strange it last so long. Because there was an obvious embargo until 4:30 pm CET today.
