-
Yea ive read them still not 100 percent sure on the install though id say im bout 85 percent of the way there.like u say no guides wiv pics purely for the agu.wot can u got? :undecided:

nice one dave top man exhactly wot i needed a fisher price map!so u only keep the one elbow all other pipework u ditch?is there a smaller diameter pipe on the red one nr the dipstick that u blank off? :undecided:
-
yes that comes off the bottom of inlet manifold, all will be obvious when you get your hands dirty matey
dont forget to blank off or sounds like a tractor!
-
Cool any idea wot id the pipe is ill turn a stainless steel bung at work
-
No, i just stuck an old bolt up there and clamped it. At a complete guess, id say 8mm.
-
dave where did ya get ur catch can mate and did it come with all pipe work needed thanks
-
Got it off a forum member and had to get 19mm ID oil resistant pipework myself, also a 19mm 90 degree bend, and T peice.
-
ok cheers mate
-
Yea i was told bout 8mm by wazzer, saiko michi cans can only b bought direct from usa mine took 13 days to get here not bad considering there made to order.i got a stage 3 with 19mm inlets and outlets matt black with a white logo
-
ok this is what i got, what else do i need to get this fitted?
-
ok this is what i got, what else do i need to get this fitted?
depending on where u mount it 2 meters of oil res hose a t piece and an elbow also a bung or bolt and a hose clamp to blank off a hose.
-
sorry this is what i got
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190517278123&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
-
sorry this is what i got
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190517278123&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
ull need wot i said plus 19mm -15mm id reducers and 2 19mm od straight plastic joiners and 4 hose clips.the hose is 19mm id wot u need 2 meters off.
-
there a smaller diameter pipe on the red one nr the dipstick that u blank of
what pipe is that?
-
ok am i correct in saying that the end of where the red pipe nearest the dip sitck goes into a t piece, 1 bit goes up to the inlet manifold, this pipe you block off, keep the other pipe and connect the red pipe to this?
-
umm, hard to explain but once you start removing everything you will see. At dipstick end, after stripping it all down, you will be left with just a 90 bend. Attach the hose to that. Not sure where the inlet manifold pipe goes to originally but sure its not PCV vlve directly.
When i removed mine, i just saw it dangling down after stripping everythng out and read up on it and found you needed to block it.
No idea what it was actually attached to, get your hands dirty and it will all come together :afro:
-
on mine underneath connected to the inlet manifold theres a thinnner pipe that connects to a t piece that the connets to what your describing as the elbow that the red pipe connects too,
-
hmm, if if connects to the 90 degree bend itself, then leave it on, but im sure after removal of everything and conecting can up, you will have nowhere for it to go to..
-
see the black lines showing the t piece im on about, do i just disconnect pipe to the grey bit(intake manifold) and block it up and connect the black and red together?
-
shouldnt the grey bit you say be the oil filter housing? :undecided: ohhhI think I get it, the other black line you have would go to the oil filter housing (the 90 bend with the annoying clip)
the intake manifold hose just gets chopped and plugged, getting rid of the pcv.
i'm sure it would all become faily obvious once you get started!
-
so the pipe coming from the t piece into the bit circled you just block off?
-
Yes mate, had a look at old PCV valve today, does the pipe from inlet manifold go into the TOP of the T?
But yeah, you got it right fella..
-
yes mate goes down from inlet manifold onto a t piece, left to the elbow, right to the metal pipe into y piece etc

+1 done mine this week.u mite wanna order a new elbow the one near the dipstick cos they get brittle and mine broke removing it£25 for a new one!other than that quite easy job to do.got a stainless steel bung for that pipe if u want it scooby?
-
Oh and a new o ring bout a fiver
-
(http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff379/symsymma1/2011-04-09171007.jpg)Heres my atempt(http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff379/symsymma1/2011-04-09170941.jpg)

-
now im confused looking at your pics :undecided:, totally diff to what was going to do
-
Hope mines right then lol mines as mateys diagram is it is easy mate honestly.im no mechanic believe me and i did ok and i didnt break me dipstick guide!ive got part numbers for the elbow and o ring if u need.u can have the bung for a quid i turned it at work.

bottom catch can pipe goes into tip where the hockey puck was ? sorry if im so thick

symsymma's install is exactly the same as my diagram Scoobygolf? If you have done it different to diagram, wont end up like Symsymma's either.
By the way Sym, neat install

-
does anyone jubelee clip all the connections up??? :undecided:
-
the ones you buy dont need jubilee clips.. the ones on the engine do..
-
Agreed, T pieces and elbow connections are barbed
-
ive jubilee'd all mine
-
think i will as well if i ever get to do this
-
I just cliped the tip the can and the big elbow.gettin a silicone tip on wed spose it wil still need a clip or wil it be tighter than the oem rubber sh!te?u can still pull of the barbs quite easily though wil prob do all mine wen i get round to it.
-
my pipe was bloody solid without jubilees.. its each to their own preferance aint it..
-

do i need a connector to connect my new pipe to the elbow by the dip stick?
-
do i need a connector to connect my new pipe to the elbow by the dip stick?
pm'd u mate
-
heres my catch can, im suppose to put a hose on the bottom but the 2 connectors at the top go to top only, does this matter as i will not have a hose on the bottom of the can? also whats with the pipe on the side on the right of the can? do i need this?
-
that pipe on side is to see how much oil is in can
-
oh ok, christ im so thick sometimes ! what about these connectors at the top?
-
They are inlet/outlet. Where you dont he a mesh/grill inside that one for vapours to cool down, i dont think it would matter which way round you have them. Talking about his, dont think ive emptied mine for about 3 weeks

the two on the top u use one wil b inlet one wil b outlet, the tube on the side is to c how full it is mate.ull have crankcase and elbow from behind dipstick going to inlet and outlet to the tip.and that bung i made u u blank of smaller pipe with nr dipstick.

how many miles should i empty roughly done nearly 700 since install now? :undecided:

just a small dribble of oilly residue then..... not bad!!!
-
just a small dribble of oilly residue then..... not bad!!!
good good my installs ok
-
ok so i doesnt matter which way round the pipes go onto the can then?
-
not if you don't have any sort of filter in there. One thing you could put in there is some sort of gauze so there is more surface area for the vapour to hit and cool down...

it is easy mate hardest part was gettin the big elbow out for me other than that simples
-
well ordered all the bits so i'll have a go next week and i'll chuck some pics up
-
i would advise against putting anything in there that has a chance of breaking up and getting sucked into the turbo. If you want a cheap home-made baffle solution.. try a cut down blade from a cheese grater.
-
good idea that
-
went to install my homade catch can today, but was getting confused with the sump breather...
i think its the one near the dipstick with two 90degree bends on the tube, one end going to the engine and the other to a t-piece???
removed the t piece, and was going to just straight connect the two reaining, but couldn't get my tube over them.
i was the going to use the t piece for the install (if that makes sense?)
am i going along the right lines here?nr the dipstick u got the big elbowand a smaller hose blank off smaller one and connect to the big elbow.u remove the t piece and valve etc if im makin sense mate
-
Yea mate post sum pics and ill c if i can help
-
10 pages - awesome
-
10 pages - awesome

-
that goes to under the inlet manifold i think, that you blank off
-
Get rid of t piece and valve, and blank off the small pipe coming out of it,its about 8mm inside diameter
-
after ll this i still hvent done mine yet!!

ya just answered that 1 yaself mate
-
If ur catchin something its workin mate!all ur catchin would b goin bk into turbo and through intercooler etc.ive emptied mine twice now aint had loads either.sign of a good engine.did u leave hockey puck inline?
-
nope binned all that, struggled to find space for the can tho
-
Where did you mount urs in the end?got any pics.r tech advised me to keep the puc on the tip inline :undecided:
-
mine snapped when i took it out
(http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z395/andc1/c285f02d.jpg)
-
Is a catch can worth fitting on a 1.8t :undecided: :undecided:
-
Nice install mate nice and neat.couldnt mount mine anywhere round there cos of me cai.that bung all ok then.
-
i find no differance but apparently yes :undecided:
-
Is a catch can worth fitting on a 1.8t :undecided: :undecided:
why woulnt it be? For me it was all about symplifying and removing pcv system and prone to splitting pipes etc.
-
yea cheers mate bunged up the pipe nicely, i didnt need to take the elbow off either as i managed to attached the pipe with it still on!!
-
It was a biatch on mine to get the new hose on the elbow
-
i did have to remove all the brackets and those stupid 3 plugs that never come apart!!!, dipstick guide took a beating too!, need to find some better flex pipe so i can go under my cai not over
-
Yea there aint enough room to get yea hands down ther is there.yea my hose is quite thick walled and ridged
-
What does that puck do anyways?
-
Think its like a 1 way valve
-
oh well its on the bin now  runs fine without it  wonder what else is pointless !!
