Oil Temperature
« on: 04 May 2016, 12:07 »
What are people experiencing as normal for oil temperature?
Mine usually fluctuates between 101 and about 107 but reached 111 the other day.
Highest I've seen it - should I be worried?

Correct oil temp in the engine should be over 100C and up to 120C you want the oil to be above the boiling point of water so as to keep the oil free of the water generated in the engine due to the combustion process. Mine tends to sit around 110.

I'd not be worried about 110....

I've known of old mk2 GTi's running stock oil-water coolers that would regularly exceed 130 on track..

On a hot day whilst on an (good) open road that is the norm on my mk6.

Mine generally sits in the high 90s and goes to 100-103 when I put my foot down. Don't think I've seen it above 103 but have not driven the car hard for an extended period, mainly just short blasts (e.g. down the on ramp to the motorway). Maybe the petrol runs hotter than the diesel?
