Hello all, this may well have been discussed already somewhere, but here goes, I bought a clubsport gti edition 40, manual,  2017 reg, 12,000km on the clock, ive only had her a fortnight, she still has the new car smell. When I reverse up steep hills or reverse with passengers the clutch stinks, like rotten fish. I have a year warranty on the car as i bought it from a dealer. Does this mean the clutch is faulty, or am i doing something wrong? I've had two VWs previously, Mk5 Gti was my last car and i never smelt a burning clutch once. I haven't had any issue driving forward, no slip, no smell, just perfection really. Your informed opinions would be most welcome.

Hi there and welcome to the forum! I've had a manual PP and never had any smell from the clutch. You aren't inadvertently riding it are you? I would get it to the dealer asap as the warranty may not cover a clutch as a wear and tear item. You would be wise to re-post this in the MK7 section which will get a lot more replies (good and bad!) - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?board=117.0

Good luck!

Thanks for the tip, I've moved it to the MK7 area

When you say riding the clutch, does that mean letting it up a bit bit by bit so you don't jut backwards? I saw someone saying that was the case somewhere else. I'm not sure this can be avoided as the car will move too quickly and it doesn't happen when i drive forward.

By riding I mean resting your foot on the pedal just enough so that the clutch will slip.
