Title: The slow gti
Post by: tweed on 24 June 2011, 15:13
Thought it's time to start a build thread and I'l do both cars in one

Bought the gti 8v because it was mint, one lady owner, fall VW service history, leather, ac and 25,000 miles  :smug:

Wanted to keep it standard and keep it in a garage, that didn't last

First of all I got rid of the wheels and put the gti wheels on.
lights, mirrors and coilovers are next on the list to change.

Then I will attack the rust and paint.

need 6 branch manifold and decat  got a straight through pipe, but want to hide the backbox.
inside need some work and tiding.
then the engine work will begin
so many things I have forgotten but I will post everything I change and add.

Suspected seal. Can anyone tell me what it could be or a part number please?

Iv also pulled the front arches more and dropped it another 10mm at the front. And I put 5mm tpr spacers on the back for a bit of poke.

More to follow on boot build

Feel its time for a change, the mk3 is falling to bits.
It needs sills welding on both sides and other little bits.
I need to sort this fookin running issue out first.

Wow been a long time. Haven't done much because of karting. Don't get the time if I'm not racing I'm practicing and then the missis wants to do something... Women!!!

Well since last post I've put in a high lift cam. I'm yet to get it on a rolling road but its a noticeable power increase.

Put in a mk4 leather steering wheel. Looks a lot better with the leather seats and black ABC

I've gone to 195/40/16 tyres on front 8" to get same looking stretch as the 195/45/16 on the 9"

I've changed the camber shims on the rear because had too much toe in and it killed tyres.

I've changed some relays and changed all four top mounts.

Oh I put on a decat pipe because well I don't need a cat on my car. Passes mot without one  I put on a straight pipe and magnex backbox. I don't like it and need to replace with a full system like jetex. So if anyone is selling a system pm me.

Took some photos yesterday

Triumph bobber, nice! Yh same here, prefer bobbers, cafe racers, flat trackers etc to sports bikes! Think if I hada sports bike I'd kill myself so gunna stay away from them lol.

Here's my inspiration

loving the gti mate love dragon green golfs :) & loving the wheels what j are they? also how much camber have you got on the rear?

Cheers man  I like the mk3 red the most  but this was to good to turn away from. Front is 8" et34 with 14mm hubcentric spacer making them et20. rears are 9" et20 I was running a 5mm spacer so et15. Removed it because running low just need to remove helpers on the front to go that extra bit more.

Set rear shims to give max negative camber. Have you got the ez shims?

For full neg camber it says to set to 20-20 then cut out the tabs. This gives you sh!t loads of toe in! I killed two new tyres in 4000 miles. (Slick)
I think I left a comment in your thread on settings.
If you get confused when you do yours pm me and ill help the best I can.

Hi I'm new here but just figured you would like to know where p820 ooy is

He's sat in my garage chilling and will do for the foreseeable future, picked him up yesterday down in Haverhill and had nothing but grins driving home

Credit to you because it is still so clean mileage currently is 39k

Will be at edition38 in the summer so keep an eye out

Louie
