I Agree, if your steady around town can scrape 30... long run touching 35 ish. not too bad when you look at the beemer 335i and merc AMG
-
Ok, to be a little more specific:
City/Town - 27mpg
Town/rural good - 29mpg
Motorway - 33mpg
At the minute predominantly congested city driving, so just hitting 27mpg. Only going to get worse when I eventually get round to getting an R.
You haven't said what your average is yabot
-
On a long run i can hit 37 mpg, around town about 30 mpg.
Pretty sure i don't drive it right though as I'm normally in a diesel van all week which gets 16 mpg and average pump stops every other day at £80 + a time, glad I don't pay!

Because i was waiting for responses...
Well it was 30mpg average, but since i've had my hands on it its about 27.5ish

Over 5 years and 13k miles my average using the brim to brim method is just over 33mpg.
Its used 99% of that time as a commuter tool 15 miles each way from April till November from rural Durham through the centre of Newcastle.
My TDI is currently only averages 41mpg on the same journeys. :embarrassed:
-
When I go to work in stop start traffic (3 miles) 27 - 29 mpg
Longer trips including motorway (25+ miles) 37 - 42 mpg
And I don't drive like miss daisy either!

Will have to keep eyes peeled for a blue gti. Commute to City (newcastle) every day of the week!

 Barely worth getting it out of the garage.

30 mpg for me

150 mile a week 1.75h a day for commuting. The TDI does 55mpg on a run so the GTI rare get used for the similar journey's. I did use it a few years ago to goto Scotland, due to the amount of speed cameras the speed was kept to 60-70 and so averaged iirc 38, I cannot remember but I did post it here at the time.
Current mileage on the mk6 is 13780 and it will be the same in ...March 2015 when its 5 year old. Even the mk1s mileage is just over 90k.
Thats why I think its pointless me getting rid of the 6 for a 7R and why i need to reduce my car count.
-
More than I remember
I averaged 43 on a trip up and back to Scotland a few months back on twisty A roads. Not bad for a car like this, suprised a mate who went with me.
Imo switch the aircon off and if its DSG knock at least 10% off any manual MPG figures anyone gives you. I just cannot get a mk5 or mk6 DSG to have as good MPG as the manual.
-
just done my 1st long motorway run (220miles) in my mk6 gti after 2 weeks of ownership, and averaged 35mpg, at 100 miles in I was averaging 37mpg. daily run to work which is about 10-12 miles of town and dual carriageway driving I'm getting between 32-35 when taking it steady, and around 24-25 when I'm not
-
25mpg long term average over the last 10k miles for mine

I'll have had my Mk2 for 5 years in February. I've done 3,400 miles in it.
-
25 mpg for me but I didn't buy it for fuel economy. Sometimes it touches 30mpg on a motorway run of distance. I will cover around 6K this year.
Very pleased with the price of fuel at the moment !

Nobody has a mk6 gti as just a show car

Im sorry that me having more than one car and me spreading my mileage between them depending on what im doing or what im carrying or towing or the weather is so upsetting to you.
I could sell them all as they aren't worth a great deal and that should just about cover the cost to jump on the latest mk7R band wagen but I would get bored of driving the same car day in, day out within a few months.
-
shall we get back on topic

Back on topic. If you want to know average mk6 GTI MPG do a search its been covered many times before

Snoopy, I have no issue with however many cars you own, or how and when you choose to drive them. Come on, it's just a bit of lighthearted banter  Certainly no offence intended. You're lucky to have a great choice of cars at your disposal.
If I only wanted a 7R to 'jump on the bandwagon', I'd have got one by now.
-
I've not long had mine back with a new engine put in. Turbo, gearbox etc has 50K miles on. Before the new engine I was getting around 26-28 average.
Obviously I haven't been blasting it recently but since the new engine and geometry check, over 300miles I've averaged 31MPG thats with driving in the town and a couple of 30mile B road journeys!
-
Lighten up snoopy it's banter not ment to be offensive chap Christmas cheer and all that
-
I'm always amused when reading about fuel consumption of petrol cars. I know you don't buy a GTI for it's fuel consumption, but for the vast majority of the time when you can't make any more progress than the line of crawling traffic in front, you might as well have the benefit of an engine that's just sipping tiny amounts of fuel.
-
It will do 40 on a run, maybe a bit more driven carefully.
28-33 in day to day driving.

I posted this a while back. Not bad for a 15 mile commute.

worst mpg to date is 26mpg
best 36
average 30.
trip computer says 29.8
ed35 running ~340hp & 380 ft-lb 99 octane fuel over 10,000 miles
-
Have been getting between 35.7-36.2 on average of late. However mine is Aug 2010 registered and has 60700k miles, so swings and roundabouts
Red

When the orange light comes on I put more petrol in.
I couldn't tell you what MPG it does and couldn't really care. I just love driving it
-
Did a long distance drive in mine yesterday, and at one point it got up to 40 MPG. I think that's pretty good.
Average though is more around the mid-30s.
Driving style counts for a lot though - in general I drive sensibly and have avoided "spirited" sessions thus far.
Also I noticed that the GTI prompts you to go up to 6th gear even at just over 40 mph, which is what I've been doing.
-
On a longish run today, also nudged the unfamiliar territory of 40mpg today. Bit of a novelty
-
^^ also got near the 40 mark all be it 37mpg today  take some doing though
-
Ahhh, figures I can only dream of. The Brera currently returns around 20mpg. Actually, no matter how I drive it I get 20mpg +/- 1mpg.
That's why I want a nice, economical GTi!!

Keep dreaming  40mpg is the exception rather than the rule in a gti.
Predictably my average has now dropped down to 33mpg, which is still better than my normal average. Got another 250 mile run coming up this weekend, so I may yet hit another high, before it plummets back down to my usual 27-29mpg.
