I’ve seen some of that guy’s other YouTube car reviews - he’s always very enthusiastic!

I think the first few minutes after the reviewer got into the car sums up for me one of the big issues of a car where all the conventional interior buttons, switches and knobs have been removed. What a palaver to go through to turn down / turn off the air con fan! No doubt it would become easier once you’d familiarised yourself with the infotainment menu system, but something as basic as adjusting the heating / ventilating / air con should be a straightforward action - easily achieved with a good old fashioned rotary control.

I read on another forum that Honda removed all the conventional interior switchgear from one of their cars, only to bring it back when the car received its mid life facelift. I wonder if that will happen when the mk8 gets its mid-life facelift?

I would doubt it given that:

1) its a massive cost saving
2) to retool is a massive cost (where do those rotary dials actually fit?)
3) The Mk8 concept is the digital interface more than anything else (the rest is Mk7)
4) Its a Golf so people will buy it anyway
5) They'd never hear the last of it if they did it

That's before you consider at least two terrible quarters in FY21 and maybe global recession - conditions where costs will need to be totally controlled.

I gave up after a minute as the reviewer didn't give me the impression it was going to be objective...

Yes - at one point I thought there was a passing train or something, but it was the A/C blower on full blast which looked somewhat tricky to switch off!

I dont care how well it is built (as others have said) that cabin doesn't look like somewhere I want to sit for 18k miles a year. Unfortunately all VAG and prem brands seem to be going the same way. Help.... An XC40 is looking more appealing with every new hatch thats unveiled. I just haven't got my head round the poor fuel economy (yet).

I feel utterly underwhelmed about the Mk8 after watching that

Let's hope the GTI/GTD/R are much more exciting. Hating the buttonless interior. I've said it before – touchscreen everything is downright dangerous whilst trying to concentrate on driving.
