best thing to do is PM JV (main boss man) and he'll set up a dedicated project thread for you :wink:I thought about that, but I'm not going to be doing any serious modding, such as replacing engines, or any crazy stuff :P

Dump valve is next on my list I reckon.
I keep changing my mind, but am leaning more toward quiet. I like the idea of it making a noise, but don't want people judging me as a chav :)Dump valve is next on my list I reckon.
Loud or quiet?

I've just done a nice drive 40 miles there then back to my parents, and have fallen in love with the car even MORE!! :)
That's something I'm gonna save up for! I'm getting the dump valve next month. Do I need anything else is preparation for a new dump valve? I was thinking of buying a K&N induction kit...
How do you know if it's oil based? Do you know if K&N ones are oil based? Or Neuspeed ones?
http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/vw%20golfmk4/engine.html

Well before I buy it I'll give them a ring and check. They have different kits for different cars, so I would imagine the one for the 1.8T would do no harm to it. It looks like it's possible to fit an induction kit oneself, but I really do have 0% knowledge of fiddling with cars! You'd think Awesome wouldn't sell an induction kit for the 1.8T that they know will damage it...How do you know if it's oil based? I agree mate but if your filter is oil based it WILL clog up the maf sensor which IIRC costs about £90 :undecided:

Reckon I'd have to tell the insurance company? all I'm doing is replacing the air filter with a better one, technically ;)
Hmm fair enough, I bet they charge a lot more for that too.

Ok guys, I've set myself a target, to try to get as close to 224bhp as I can get. Is it going to be do-able without spending a huge fortune?
That sounds like a great idea! Your Golf should always beat him on handling regardless of what mods you choose.funny you should mention that, the brakes on my golf are really bad :(
Don't forget to possibly upgrade your brakes... I put Black Diamond discs and Track pads on mine... Nice and grippy. Useful for my GTi which doesn't have ASR or ESP

oh no definatly not, a mk4 handles like a boat on standard suspension

Can I use this as a direct replacement for the knackered rear wiper I have at the moment?
or just remove the wiper :D
True, but then you aren't comparing standard cars are you...
Fitted my Audi TT pedals, they look gorgeous!
Yeah, COMPLETE pain in the ass to fit though. Getting the old ones off was actually less of a taste that getting the new ones on :)
Spoiler arrived today!!
I just need to get it sprayed and fitted now.
Oh yeah!!
I've been thinking guys. I want to get new bumpers eventually, and I need to get my spoiler sprayed and fitted. The thing is the cars 9 years old, I imagine the black paint will have faded some. Do you think it'll be noticable if I but brand new diamond black parts onto the car?
Well, I've just removed the entire front bumper and fitted the new bulbs, yay!! It's such a manly feeling doing it, and actually not needing help :)
I did however rest the bumper on the ground, and being an idiot forgot to put something under it. I now have a huge scratch in the middle of the bumper above the licence plate
I'm not sure what the normal VW bulbs are, but the ones I removed were Osram.
I've just ordered these :)

Very useful, especially as I need to remove the driver side door insides so I can fut my new blue alarm LED thingy.
Easy enough removing the door guts then is it?
New black door handle kit arrived today, yay! Top marks to vwspeed for prompt delivery!! :)
http://www.vwspeed.co.uk/volkswagen/vw-parts/Mk4_Golf_5_Door_Handle_Kit_Black-2313-238.html
Will try fitting them at the weekend. Have the existing handles a damn good pull, but they won't budge :P
I'm just worried about damaging the bits that stay attached to the door :)
Nice one, out of stock though :(
I wonder, with having a black car, whether the VW badges would look sweet in white or not? :)
Hmm your probably right. Hmmm... I don't think the black badges will look right, but then I don't like the chrome/silver one that's on there either. But I dislike de-badged ones even more. Can't win :)
Grrr, found out the s2000 stubby aerial group buy over at ukmkivs is off for some reason. I sent the guy my money and he never even messaged me to say the group buy had been cancelled. Three messages I've sent him, and he still won't reply to return my money. I am NOT impressed!

Long story but the golf nearly got written off earlier

No, end of November apparently! I'm not impressed. I told Damien to ask Eibach to give us a further discount for all the trouble they've caused, but he won't do it.
Yeah, I've been waiting two months for my ARB now. Considering I was only saving a small amount of money, it's an utter joke on Eibach's part!
If It doesn't come by the end of November I've said I want a refund.
The only up side is I don't need the ARB yet, MOT isn't until February I believe. Then I just need what, £125 for the springs. £250 for some tyres, then it's going to be about £500 to get everything fitted!
Gonna take the car to the MOT with the rear brakes as they are, as I think VW were lying when they said they would fail, there's LOADS of pad and disc left.

£500 to get everything fitted??? i'd shop around mate - ARB is probably a couple of hours and the springs are around 30 minutes per corner
don't pay £500 whatever you do!!! have you got a quote from Awesome??
That's based on using Awesome mate. They want about £270 just to replace the bushes, or £470 to replace bushes and ARB. I can get the price down a bit as I'm supplying my own ARB, but then I need to add on the cost of fitting springs. Plus I need four tyres fitting and balancing.
Thing is, I don't know if that's the price for replacing the bushes, or the entire control arms. VW quoted even higher!
I think they said it was cheaper to replace the wishbones than just the bushes.
Got a response from Awesome.
Me:
"I was in a month or two ago getting my front brakes upgraded, and the mechanic checked and confirmed my ARB and control arms were shot. I got a quote off you for the work, just getting those parts fixed with standard bits.
I've got an Eibach front ARB coming soon, and plan to get some Eibach springs as well to drop the car a little.
Could I get a quote on fitting the front ARB (own), springs (own) all around, and replacing the bushes in the control arms with Powerflex (would buy from you) ones please?
Car is a '99 Golf GTI"
Awesome:
" hi there,
In doing all the work together you will save on the alignment and some time here and there, so the total labour for doing all the work (including geo setup) would be £340.75+VAT and £67.10+VAT for the powerflex bushes."
You're welcome to come and do it mate
I've no money, but I want nice things for my Golf

TT Short Shifter fitted this afternoon :afro:
Subtle little difference. I had had to shorter the slack as it were a tad as it was getting stuck in reverse, but all gears work now. Seems stiffer in each gear now when changing.
Hmm, don't have any of that. I sprayed it liberally with WD40 though :P
Think I need to get hold of some grease though, trip to Halfords at some point I think :P
Yeah nice little mod, something else taken care of now! Need to fit the silicon hoses eventually too.

Thank you
I've tried every black mk4 being broken on eBay that's a reasonable distance. Need some time to try salvage yards. So far had no luck though.
Have you looked on eBay?
What do you need?

New wings fitted on both sides now, she's looking a lot better for herself
£70 for the pair, and the petrol to go about 40 miles or so, if that. Fitted them myself today over at my mates house
Only downside is the driver side wing isn't flush with the bumper, it was like that before though...
It was a bit of a challenge, mostly getting the old ones off!! I've got two screws left over each side too!

They passed an MOT 4 months ago with no advisory!
Just thought I'd mention that I finished paying off the loan on the Golf this month, so it's now officially 100% mine. Done, dusted and paid for :afro:
Ohh definitely. With the baby to buy for, and wanting to try to get a house in the next 2 years, it's a god sent.
I've bought a car from new before, so was getting raped sideways at the cost of £250 a month. After selling that £125 for the Golf seemed a lot better. Now though, don't really fancy ever having finance again. Well, not until I can easily afford it.
Saying that... I've seen an asbolutely brilliant R32 I want!!
Just picked up the new wheels. Can't wait to buy another 2 tyres then get them all fitted and onto the car
Wheels went on today, very
Just need my centre caps to arrive, and two more bolt caps.
Need the centre caps etc first, so they're seen at their best
