what oil for mk4 2.0 litre gti ????

hiya ppl, just need to top up my oil, as ppl have said it does tend to go through some, and guess what just checked today and its really low, so going to need id say at least 3-4 litre in it.
So just wondered whats ok for her semi syn 10w/40 or 5w/30 or does it need fully syn 5w/40 ?
please help, as dont want to put wrong oil in it !!!!
also how much oil does it take in these 2.0litre lumps??? is it 4 litre from bone dry to fill ?

Check your handbook for infor, but generally speaking it's important to get an Oil that has the correct specific VW reference.

Realistically, it's unlikely to make a huge difference over time (as long as you change regularly and use good quality oil), but if your car was last service at a VAG garage, they will have used a specific oil that is worth sticking with and not mixing types where possible.

If you're doing a complete change yourself, then I'd recommend Castrol SLX or Mobil 1 - both excellent oils and based on Synthetic technology for longer service intervals.

hi mate.

i have a 2.0litre gti and it does drink a bit of oil and ive always used semi 5w-40. but if you aint sure what oil is in it then id do a full oil change and run it on that as its the right stuff

wasnt sure so put 5w-40 fully syn in it, thats what it said on the oil guide book in the motor factors.
