how do I get this roof to work, the motor is not working for the roof, could it be one those fuses in the boot or something else

The power top only works with the key in the ignition barrel DO not turn it to any position. It will not fold down with the engine running for obvious reasons, imagine doing 60 and it rains, you close roof down only to destroy it from back pressure.
The fuses are self resetting thermal fuses, so not generally an issue.

So key in, un latch, press roof down.
An issue can occur with the pump drive failing but it usually whirs and makes some kind of noise whether it operates the top or not.

The relays can gum up and I all way's recommend covering them as a matter of course as they are prone to water damage from the hood area around the pivot points.
If the pump whirs, make sure the Thumb screw key in the boot on the passenger side is fully locked down clockwise.
Check your fluid level however the hood MUST be folded down otherwise you get a false reading. The fluid must show
between min and max
