Title: Kev's GTI PP DSG with OEM mods
Post by: kevinm on 19 August 2014, 10:03
I couldn't find a build thread section for Mk7's so I'm putting it in the regular mk7 section. I wont be doing any big performance mods, just subtle oem mods. I'll post part numbers so you guys can get all the nice goodies too.

Spec as follows (Note Irish Standard Spec is far lower than UK):
-Tornado Red
-3dr

Standard spec of note:
-LED tail lights and LED number plate lights
-Colour FIS clocks with needle sweep on start up
-LED front fog lights
-Electric folding mirrors with puddle lights under the mirrors
-LED lit door sills
-LED interior lights
-Electric handbrake with auto-hold. Basically you never have to worry about the handbrake again. It comes on and off by itself.

Extras:
-DSG
-Performance Pack This brings bigger brakes with rears vented. Fronts with GTI logo on callipers. 230bhp v's 220 bhp standard. And a torque vectoring e-diff. It's basically a computer controlled lsd.
-Xenon Lights with cornering function and LED day time running light
-Half leather interior with alancantara and tartan centres
-18" Wheels
-Adaptive cruise control with emergency brake A distance can be set to the car in front so in stop-start traffic the car will just follow the car in front. Emergency brake will apply brakes if it thinks a crash is imminent.
-Winter Pack Heated seats and heated windscreen washer jets.
-Discover Pro Sat Nav. 8" Touch screen. 60GB Hard Drive.
-Tinted side and rear windows
-Reverse Camera
-Keyless Access
-Climatronic climate control
-Adaptive Chassis control The dampers are adjustable at a touch of a button
-Lane assist There is a camera in the rear view mirror that reads the road markings and will steer the car straight if it veering out of the lane. It can also steer the car around bends. It's only a backup. If you take your hands off the wheel for more than 5 seconds the car will start beeping.
-Dynamic Light Assist This is the option I'm most looking forward to. The same camera as the lane assist also looks for cars at night. It then trims the high beam so not to blind on-coming traffic or cars you are following. This is a step up from high beam assist in that the high beam is not turned off. A portion of it is blocked while still fully lighting the ditch.

Here's pics of her just off the transporter. We pulled the cover off the boot to check the camera. The car arrived at the Dealers at 2pm on a Friday, and I collected it on the Saturday. So any guys getting BS stories from their dealers saying it takes days to PDI a car dont believe them!

Finally got a break in the weather to give the car a proper clean and take some pics. I got the foam boot protector and VW Luxury mats. Herself loves sitting barefoot in the car now!

Title: Re: Kev's GTI PP DSG with OEM mods
Post by: kevinm on 19 August 2014, 10:17
A few weeks ago I lifted the boot floor to find this:

The usual suspects (lights/seals) were checked and came back fine. It was eventually chased to the boot hinge. VW don't put a sealant there in the factory, they just rely on the paint to seal it which is a bit crazy. The dealer did a top job finding it and fixing it. Here is the hinge with the sealant applied:

The trim under the hinge and C-pillar trim is hard plastic so there were no wet spots in the headlining.

I activated Traffic Sign Recognition with VCDS. You need the Discover Pro and lane assist camera for this, although I have seen some guys with just the camera do it, but the camera sometimes makes mistakes and shows the wrong signs. I have not been shown a wrong sign so the camera must consult the Nav's database first. Note how the compass direction gets bumped down to the outside temp level. I followed this how-to:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/299493-how-to-enable-traffic-sign-recognition/

I also did a few VCDS tweaks. I followed the guides on the following websites:

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=260248.0
http://www.stemei.de/pages/coding/vw-golf-7.php (view with Google Chrome to translate)
http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/299424-octavia-iii-vcds-adaptations-tried-and-tested/

Next I put in door warning lights. This is more tricky to do than on mk5/6 as there are no vacant pins to just plug into. The door warning light pin in the door controller feeds the illuminated door sill. There was no vacant ground pin either. I avoid damaging factory wiring if possible to I built a loom that plugs in between the door module and the factory wiring loom. I split the power and ground in my loom. This way I can remove it again and leave no damage to the factory wiring. Some pics:

Next I replaced the glove box light with the led light that is used as footwell lights in the mk7. It was a nice easy straight swap. Part number of the light is: 5G0 947 409. It was about €8 IIRC. Standard light on left, led on right:

I then fitted led footwell lights to the rear. The holes are in the seat frames. I built my own loom as the pre-made loom by-passes the plugs where the seat loom plugs into the main car loom. This means you cannot remove the seat without cutting the wires for the foot well light. There were empty positions in the plug for seat heating in my car so I used them. Again, my loom plugs in between the front footwell led and factory loom for power so no damage to factory loom.

I then fitted genuine led vanity mirror lights. They are not factory fitted to any VW's to the best of my knowledge. They come as part of a pack on the Seat Leon. They are a straight swap. Part number is: 5F0 947 109 B. Price is €13 each.To remove the existing light, stick a flat tool in from the door side of the light. (Note this light comes in different colours to suit the interior colour)

The most recent mod I have done is the Audi jacking point mod. This mod has been around since the mk4. Parts required are (Note: These are Audi parts so probably have to come from an Audi dealer. I got them from a dealer that's both Audi and VW):

8V0 825 271                       Qty:1
8V0 825 272                       Qty:1
8V0 802 845                       Qty:1
8V0 802 846                       Qty:1
8V0 802 847 A                    Qty:2
8V0 804 631 B                     Qty:2

EDIT: A note on the rear jacking pads: There is a mix up on the part numbers. There is a non-A and Rev-A version of the rear pad. They are different lengths so the non-A will not fit Golfs. I ordered 8V0 802 847 without the A at the end. My order must have been mis-picked and I got the Rev A's. The packaging said non-A but I never checked the part number on the pad itself. I did not realise this until Simon (C2K) contacted me after getting the wrong parts. The shorter part in the pics below is the correct one (Rev A). Credit to Simon for the first 3 pics below and figuring it out. I can confirm that the Rev A fits both 3 and 5 door Golfs. I have amended the list above. Apologies for the mis-information.

I also got the full PR-code list for the car. This is basically the car's DNA and lists out every feature (whether standard or optional) it has.

Great thread. Thanks for the part numbers! Interesting to see how little comes standard in Ireland compared to the UK.

Good idea on the mods I'm off down the dealers to get the jacking points and glovebox light sorted!

Any chance you could you let us know where you got the rear footwell light kit from?

Cheers!

I made the kit myself. I'll do a schematic this evening with the parts needed.

It's a great mod if you like taking off the wheels to clean them. It saved the sills on my mk5!

That would be great thanks - although I'd have to use the non modded loom as I've got the heated seats.

That I do, plus I will be running winter wheels. Annoyingly I already had a puncture too so have had a wheel off already. Was expecting to find something like that!!

Is this everything that's needed?

Yes that's all the parts you need. That was well spotted in the pic. That pic was taken before I pushed it home. I couldnt do it by hand. I had to press it in with the trolley jack

I didnt bother with that mod in the mk5/6. It's over rated imo. In cold weather the strut wont lift the boot and in warm weather it would take your head off. The new Octavia has an electric opening boot that has auto close too  I looked at fitting it but the struts are the wrong length for the Golf.

Need to identify a market that had auto closing boot then lol. I  like the mods you've done, very OEM plus. Not sure I can be arsed taking my seats out but I like the subtle touches.

OK so here's a bit more detail into the rear footwell led light mod. I didn't intend to make a how-to so pictures are a bit thin on the ground. The parts required are:

*The VW loom tape comes in 10m lengths and is a rip off (~€10 each). Just google "Coroplast furry tape". You will get a 25m roll for less than what VW charge for 10m and it is the exact same tape.
Shrink tubing, solder, cable ties etc

The above list will enable you to plug in between the front footwell light and the factory loom. It wont let you unplug it at the main seat connection. To do that you need the parts below. I've split this into 2 sections, 1 for cars with heated seats and 1 for cars without. You only need 1 of the below lists.

For cars with heated seats:
The plug for heated seats has empty positions so you can use these. Parts required:

Repair wire:          000 979 025 E      Qty: 2
Repair Wire:          000 979 020 E      Qty: 2

For cars without heated seats:

Plug:                   1J0 973 332 A       Qty: 2
Plug:                   1J0 973 119         Qty: 2
Repair wire:          000 979 019 E      Qty: 2
Repair wire:          000 979 020 E      Qty: 2

Here is a schematic. Forgive the poor paint skills. Repair wires have the same terminal both ends so cut each in 2. Solder the wires together and cover with heat shrink tubing and loom tape.:

Make sure you keep the polarity because the light will only work one way around.

I dont use repair wires. I get the terminals individually and crimp them onto the wire:

- Slide seat forward and remove rear bolts
- Slide it back and remove front bolts
- Tilt seat back to expose where loom goes under carpet.
- Lift the head of the push-fit fastener then remove it

- Un-plug and remove seat. I'd recommend protecting the sill with a heavy blanket. The seat rails have sharp edges and could easily scratch the sill. Here are the plugs. Left one in seat belt buckle switch (and sensor mat on passanger seat). Middle is for airbag and right is for seat heating.

- Run wires in seat and through the protective sheath. I had to cut the cable ties to get the cables through. Fix new cable ties.

- Lift the front of the sill trim. This takes a lot of force. The illumination wires come from the rear so you will not pull or damage them. You dont need to remove the whole trim, just the front of it.

- Remove the trim to the side of the dashboard, where the fuse box was in mk5+6. You should be able to reach the back of the front light. Release the plug and plug in your new loom.

- Run the wires down along the sill and follow the path of the factory wiring to the main seat plug.

- Remove the plugs from their mounting bracket. Place the wires in the main seat plug, or your own extra plug. If you have heated seats, note the secondary locking mechanism in the plug. To unlock, you have to push the purple bit of the plug until it moves with a click.

- Put everything back and enjoy your rear footwell lights

Forgive me being stupid here but what exactly is the purpose of the jacking point mod?

You can jack the car on a trolley jack there anyway. Is it just to identify the jacking points easier?

Kevin - thank you very much! You ought to manufacture and sell them as kits lol!

Mr Savage - surely it just protects the underside of the car and saves you having to put something on top of a trolley jack to stop it marking the car?

It's mainly to protect the sills. Also you don't need a modified puck or similar when jacking like you need when jacking on the sills.

Fair enough I just put two short bits of wood on top of each other between the underside and the trolley jack and it hasn't marked anything yet.

I did the same but nearly crapped myself when one of the bits of wood split on the trolley jack. This way is definitely a better idea for me, lol! Also, probably a little more stable not having 2 sets of contact faces rather than 1.

I've a few questions Kevin if you don't mind?

Your parts list says there are 8 parts but I only see 6! What's missing?

In the middle picture, do you actually jack on to that flat plastic part? It looks really smooth and easy for the jack to slip! Whereas the jacking point in your last picture looks ideal as that would nestle into most jacks!

Lastly, I've had a quick look on-line for costs but couldn't see any. What does this set up roughly cost?

I used the puck method on my old A1 (now my wife's) but because the puck was roughly the same size as the jack head I had to put wood in-between the two. As I was jacking the car up the wood cracked unbeknown to me so as I was jacking I was also pushing the sill up from underneath!! A costly mistake at over £500 to repair. So this method looks promising

Thanks for sharing.

The first 2 parts I list are not in the picture. They are underbody trims. You have to remove a trim each side to reveal where the jacking points go. The first 2 parts are new trims to go with the jacking points. You can see it in the last picture. It is the clean darker plastic to the right and above the jacking point. I have more pics of the jacking points on my friend's phone. I'll upload over the next few days.

The jacking points are hard plastic. They would not work well with those cheap trolley jacks that have the metal head on them. My jack has a rubber pad moulded into it so it works perfectly.

I also got another nice oem part. Audi's come with a plastic piece to guide the wheel onto the hub. You only get about 2 uses out of it until the plastic threads strip. This is an aluminium one from a Phaeton/Touareg. As it's aluminium, it's very light, it's far light than you would expect. If there's interest, I'll dig out the part number:

Hi Kev, just sent you a PM, but thought I'd post here as well.

Loving the mods you have made to your GTI. One in particular stood out as it's one I've been wanting to do for a while now, and it's the door warning lights (at the bottom of the door). Wonder if I could trouble you with a few questions please ?

I already have the door light units (retained them from my Scirocco when I traded it in - I did the mod on that). Do you have any more info on firstly removing the door cards safely and without damaging them (is it scary ?), and secondly a little more info on exactly how you wired them up please.

The reason I ask is that I noted you said there were no spare wiring points in the door module (J386), as when I looked into this some time ago, I assumed the Audi A3 and Golf 7 door modules were basically the same (the part numbers are the same aside from the Audi vs VW identifiers), for the MQB platforms. I downloaded a Golf 7 and Audi A3 (MQB) wiring schematic from VW's technical website, and noticed that the A3 (which has separate red and white door warning and puddle lighting illumination as standard), connects to a positive terminal 16 of the 32 pin connector (on the front door controller), with the earth (for all the door lights), connecting to the main earth in the door wiring harness.

Looking at the same schematic for the Golf door control module, all wiring for the various components for the Golf vs the A3 all go to identical pin numbers in both cars (which is why I assumed the door controllers were the same - or at least very similar). However crucially, from what I can see, the Golf doesn't have a pin going to terminal 16, which theoretically should be the door warning illumination pin as used by Audi, as the Golf doesn't have these installed as standard ? Is that then not the case ?

I assume there's no VCDS coding required ?

Does any of this make sense

**EDIT**

Just re-looked at the wiring schematics jut now (with a fresh pair of eyes) and indeed have found that the sill strip illumination does ultimately connect (via the coupling point in the door) to terminal 16 of the door control module, so it does indeed seem VW are using the same pin on the Golf as per the A3 for door illumination. So I guess you just spliced into that wire on the door control module ?

Hi Sootchucker, I'll answer your questions here so others can see it.

The door controllers are the exact same in the Golf and A3. They have the same common MQB part number (5Q0).

My version of elsa showed pin 16 to be vacant in the Golf too but when I took the door card off I found pin 16 to be occupied. After a bit of trial and error I figured out that the wire powers the illuminated door sill which makes sense as it only turns on when the door is open. The current version of elsa now shows the illuminated door sill at pin 16 but when I did the mod vw had not yet added it to their schematic. This also means that the door controller is already coded for door exit lights so no vcds coding is required.

The easiest way would be to just splice into the wiring to power the exit lights but I don't like damaging factory wiring. I made a loom that plugs in between the factory wiring and door controller and I split the power and ground in my loom.

I have a hand drawn schematic of my loom with the lengths of wire I made. I'll transfer it to a ms paint diagram that's easier to follow. It will take me a few days to do.

EDIT: on removing the door cards, it's the same principle as the mk5/mk6/scirocco. Just take your time and have spare clips on hand because you will break some. They are very cheap.

Thanks Kevin, the schematic (when you have a chance) would be great.

Sorry to ask another question, but with regards to removing the door cards, are there bolts behind the door grab handle and if so, does the outer part of the trim lever off ?

I guess elsewhere there's bolts on the bottom edge (and there appears to be a "special" one in the bottom middle ?), and everything else is just those big white clip things (like on my Scirocco) ?

Ya the cover for the grab handle pops off to get access to the bolt (T27 IIRC). The bolt at the bottom edge is just rotated 90 degrees with a ring spanner. The door card clips are black: 7L6 868 243

So here's a bit more detail on the door warning light mod. Again, I didn't intend on doing a how-to so I don't have pics for every step. Also note some pictures are of the drivers side and others are of the passanger side in case you notice that the 32 pin plug has extra wires in some pics. The driver's side has more wires in it.

This mod was easier to do on mk5 and mk6 as there were empty positions in the door controller to accept the wiring for the door warning lights. If your car has illuminated door sills, this is fed from the door warning light position on the door controller. This makes sense as the sills only illuminated when the door is open, and only the side with the open door illuminates. This makes the wiring more difficult as you have to somehow tap into this feed but on the other hand the door controller already has door warning lights activated (to power the sills), so no vcds coding is necessary.

The power for the sills and lights comes from pin 16 on the blue 32 pin plug in the door controller. I could not find an empty ground pin in the plug on the door controller so i decided to tap into the ground already at pin 5 in the 32 pin plug.

If you dont mind damaging the car's wiring then you can just get tap connectors and take your power and ground from the wires going to the pins mentioned above. I avoid doing this if possible. My solution is to build a loom that plugs in between the car's loom and the 32 pin plug. I then spilt the power and ground in my loom. The advantage of this is that the home-made loom can be removed and the wiring returned to factory spec without any signs of modification.

Parts needed:
Light:..............1K0 947 411 A......1 per door
Plug:...............1J0 971 972.........1 per door
Repair wire:.....000 979 019 E......1 per door
Repair wire:.....000 979 009 E......1 per door
Repair wire:.....000 979 012 E......1 per door
Door card clip:..7L6 868 243.........3 per door
0.5mm2 Thin Wall wire:...............3m per door
VW loom tape
Shrink tubing
Solder

* The A3 wiring diagram shows 0.35mm2 wire but I'm fairly sure the A3 uses leds for the door warning lights. As we are using a regular bulb, 0.5mm2 is safer.

Here is a quick sketch of the wiring loom you need to make. The 019 repair wires go in the plug. The 009's go at the far right end of the loom and the 012's are used on the little spurs off. Note that the drivers (right side) needs a slightly longer loom. This is because the 32 pin plug is closer to the door hinge on the right door.

The next bit requires brute strength and care. Pop all of the clips holding the door card on. You are pretty much guaranteed to break some so do get spares.

Remove the door card and unplug the wires. Note 2 light fittings have the same plug so you could plug them back in the wrong way round. They are a black 2 pin plug. Mark which ones goes to each light. I didnt do this and it took trial and error to figure out which went where! I didnt remove the cable from the door handle to door lock as I was worried I would break it so I just let the door card lean up against the door while I worked.

This is the right side door controller with blue 32 pin plug:

Remove the plug, cut the cable tie holding the cables to it and release the white plastic piece from the blue cover.

The 2 wires we are interested in are the brown at pin 5 and the purple at pin 16:

Remove these pins from the plug and lie them back along the loom towards the rear of the door and plug in the ends of the new loom in their place:

Next join the purple and brown wires from the car loom to the spurs in the new loom. These pins will plug securely and easily hold themselves together. Put some heat shrink tubing around them to hold them together and insulate.

Now tape the loom to the existing car loom, put the 32 pin plug back together and fit a new cable tie.

Here is a picture showing the left side with the plug back in but the wiring not yet taped up and secured. You can see the 2 new grey wires coming from the 32 pin plug. These are the terminals to the far right in my diagram. You can also see the purple and brown wires that used to be plugged into the 32 pin plug. The shrink tubing on the brown wire covers where it plugs into the spur on the new loom. The purple wire wire is also joined in the same way but it's obscured by the thick bundle of cables.

The pic below is of the right side with the plug back in but the brown and purple wires not yet joined to the new loom. If you are wondering where the other spur is, you can just see it to the left of the thick brown and red cables going into the door controller.

Tape up the loom and run it beside the existing loom through the 2 hooks. Then turn it down toward the bottom of the door. In the pic below, you can see that I taped it to the door to secure it.

Now plug in your light to test it works before you refit the door card. You may need to close the door lock with a screwdriver and open it again to get the door controller to power up the light. If the sill lights up but the door warning light does not, you more than likely have the polarity wrong. Swap the pins around on the plug going into the light and try again.

If it works remove the light again and refit the door card with the wire poking out through the hole where the reflector is located. And Voila! Door warning lights are done!

Thanks Kevin, your work here looks fantastic, with subtle but clearly well thought-through modifications.

I've just got a question about the jacking points mod, which I'm currently trying to get the parts for to enable maintenance of the wheel arches and exchanging winter/summer wheels.

If you're these points for a trolley jack, is there somewhere else that axle stands could then go beneath? Or if you're planning to use stands then should you use the standard jacking points by the sills?

Apologies if it's a bit of a dumb question - I've only previously used scissor jacks for quickly switching out flat tires and am just learning about when trolley jacks and axle stands are more appropriate/safer.

Thanks for the kind words. I have not used axel stands on the car yet. I'd say it would be best to use a trolley jack on the new jacking points and the axel stands on the sills

Thanks to your excellent how to Kevin, I did the door opening lights in both my front doors yesterday. Went very smoothly and only took about an hour all in.

Seemed to be much easier to get the door trim off and on than it was on my Scirocco, and a very nice touch is that VW have left a small insert for a trim removal tool in the upper end of the door grab handle trim, which made the whole operation much easier (the handle trims on the scirocco were a pig to get off without damaging them).

An added plus is that I didn't break one single door clip

Chris, get all the bit's that's needed together and make up the harnesses as per Kevin's instruction and we'll talk

As per Kevin's shopping list, you will need to order the following from your local VW dealer (the wire and heat shrink tubing you can get from ebay or a hardware store). Don't bother with the door clips as I purchased quite a few for my Scirocco (which is the same part) and still have them left (on the off chance one of the clips snaps).

Kevin,

Out of interest, have you looked at going the same for the rear doors as well ?

I know the A3 has them, but looking at the wiring schematics, there are no rear door controllers in the doors unlike the fronts, and as my early A3 MQB wiring schematics don't for some strange reason include the rear doors, I'm unsure as to how the rear door lights on the A3 are wired up ?

I would guess we would need to pick up a connection from the coupling point (TTHR and TTHL) on the rear doors, assuming of course VW bothered to send the electrical wiring this far ?

Andrew,

Are you selecting the A3 or A3 sportback? The A3 is 3 door only so rear doors will not be shown in the wiring diagram. There are dedicated rear door controllers mounted in the rear door in the Sportback. The exit warning lights are powered by pin 12, in the 16 pin plug.

Post by: kevinm on 22 September 2014, 09:17
The 16 pin plug uses the 009 repair wires too so the same list of parts should do the rear doors. Pin 13 is where I would go for the ground.

Seem to recall when I ordered my bits (which was when I had the Scirocco), all the parts including the lights themselves for both front doors came to just over the £30-£35 mark.
Title: Re: Kev's GTI PP DSG with OEM mods
Post by: Sootchucker on 23 September 2014, 11:17
Kevin and I have just discovered something strange. Whilst the front doors are really easy, I was looking to do the same mod in the rear doors. However when looking at the wiring schematics for the Golf 7 vs the A3 Sportback, as the A3 has from the factory a full suite of door open lights and ambient lighting available on certain models, they also (like the front doors) have their own door controllers installed.

The Golf 7 however, as it's not offered in any market with lights in the rear doors, doesn't even have a door controller fitted to either of the rear doors. This makes powering up the rear door reflector much more of a challenge.

Why would the 5 door mk7 have no door controllers?? Does the central locking and power windows have a feed in the back door?

I suppose it's cost cutting by VW as there is less to be done for the rear doors in Golfs as opposed to the A3. In the Golf, the rear windows are controlled by the front door controller and the locks are done by the BCM.

There was a mistake in the list of part numbers for the jacking points. I've edited the list and added an explanation in the 2nd post.

Hi All,

Just a small update this time. My local dealer had 2 of the new passats on display at the weekend. They were lhd, on german plates and full spec. I noticed they had led door warning lights so it would be rude not to fit them   I paid €20 ex vat each. This light will also fit mk5 and mk6 and any other car with the same shape dummy reflector in the door card.

LED light on the left and standard filement bulb light on the right.

Standard light below. Note how yellow it looks compared to the led light visible from under the wing mirror.

The led light has a little diffuser to spread the light evenly. There are 2 leds inside it.

And the light installed. Light output is similar to the regular bulb version but the light is better spread and more even. It's also a lot whiter.

This is the driver's side looking forward. Remove the T20 screw securing the existing trim. Release the tabs and slide the trim rear-wards. This will take a lot of force.

You will need a jack to press it all the way in. Even this wont get it in fully. When you release the jack, rotate the bung until you hear it click. Make sure it is fully in before you move on.

Job Done!

I've been trying to source the parts for this jacking point mod, but I'm having some trouble finding them all. The local Bristol Audi dealer doesn't respond to the enquiry, my VW dealer can't order these particular parts (but was very helpful about it) and all the online stores I can find with these part numbers are in the US.

The Audi garage in Reading has said they could supply all except part 8V0 804 631, which isn't available.

Does anyone know of a good (preferably online) supplier in the UK where I could order these parts, please?

Cheers, Andy.

This thread is a goldmine of information, I now want to get the jacking parts, wheel alignment tool and all the gubbins to install the lights to the doors.

Car hasn't been built yet and I'm already looking at bits to improve it

How do you put youtube videos in the actual post?

Nice one. I seen those leads here  (http://www.carsystems.pl/new-product-golf-mk-7-dynamic-tail-lights-led-adapter-led-dynamic-turn-lights,id2250.html)but thought they were pretty expensive for a set of leads but there must be some controller in it so maybe not expensive after all.

What are the 3 different speeds like and where do you alter it?

Got a link to this coding?  I prefer it to the alternating ones.

It's not coding unfortunately. It's a little loom that plugs into the outer rear lights:

Hi Kevin just got a quote for all the parts for the jacking points, around £60 delivered, does that seem about right? Thanks in advance.

Here are the current list prices for the parts. Prices are each, in Euros and for Ireland (and include VAT) as that's how my etka is set up. I'd expect a 10% discount from the parts counter if you know them. 8V0 804 631 has been superseded by 8V0 804 631 A. Can you post back here and confirm that the new A revision fits OK?

8V0 825 271    €5.55
8V0 825 272    €5.55
8V0 802 845    €10.31
8V0 802 846    €10.31
8V0 802 847 A  €11.67
8V0 804 631 A   €10.31

Yes etka says rev B is a direct replacement so it should work

Kev, unless you've edited the original parts list for this, it states rev B for this part. The non rev item is in a list "quoted" wrongly, later in the thread.

Yes I edited the original list. I cant do anything about quoted posts. It doesnt really matter which revision you order as etka will suggest the newest part (Rev B in this case)

Kevin,

Old thread revival.....

I'm going to attempt to fit rear footwell lights this weekend, but I've had a quick look under the seats, and where the cut out is for the light to fit to, it's covered by the yellow foam from the seat.

Did you just get the light to push this inwards, or did you cut around the aperture with a knife to remove the foam ?

I just pushed the light in, displacing the foam. It's a tight squeeze so the lights don't budge.

Glad to help.

The mk7 and I will soon be parting ways. Need something with rear doors and a bigger boot. I can't find anything that will properly fill the mk7's shoes. Every option I look at is a compromise in some way. The GTI was such a complete car.

Passat TDI 240bhp 4 Motion: Has all the tech and I'm familiar with VW (VCDS, parts, mods etc). It's not the sportiest looking car on the road. There's no 240bhp passats in Ireland to test drive. Also the thought of a 4 cylinder diesel does not give me the warm and fuzzies.

BMW 330d/430d:Gran Coupe: My initial choice. Great engine for a diesel. Low tech compared to others and mediocre interior let it down. I also have no tech knowledge on BMW's so would be at dealers' mercy.

New A4: Bland bland bland! The old B8 was better looking/proportioned. The standard spec is poor so I would be looking at retrofitting ACC and other options that are now standard on the GTI.

Audi S3 saloon: My preferred choice but pricey to run. Petrol is 10c per litre more expensive than diesel here. I'd probably loose 5-7mpg on the GTI. Also standard spec is terrible. Auto dimming mirror and dual zone climate control is extra FFS!

Use a ring spanner to turn the plastic clip at the bottom of the door card 90 degrees:

Remove the one bolt behind the cover an dthe other below the grab handle:

I know, massive bump. Can anyone tell me how the wire lengths relate for a 5dr mk7? I'd prefer making the looms before taking the car apart to install them.

Wire lengths are great for a 5dr Mk7 - done this mod to my 5dr without any issues at all.
