So with a budget of up to £100 per mod, where would you spend your first £100?

hmm £100

uprated headlight bulbs
Bora Vents and wiring loom - get the vents from www.vwspeed.co.uk and PM Wazzer on here for a loom
W8 Light - 3B7 947 105 F 2EN (Non sunroof)

Repair wire (2 needed) 000 979 131

Adaptor plug (1 needed) 893 971 993

Repair wire (2 needed) 000 979 103

Light plug (1 needed) 3B0 972 706

For the W8 adaptor loom you need to look at each plug and the numbers that correspond to the wire slots.

Old plug end               New plug end

3                                4

2                                5

1                                3

1 (wire runs down to fuse box for + feed)

Click on the link under my sig as i've done a fair few things for under £100 :afro:

you can get some bespoke fitted car mats made up for under £100 from www.justmatz.co.uk

i got some made for mine (pics should be in the link under my signature)

if your car doesn't already have it you could get an OEM front arm rest for about £100

need to find someone with VAG TACHO for windows and miles to empty; Miles to empty depends on your clocks - need to be Immob 3 version.

Auto locking can be done with VAG COM; you can either purchase it from www.ross-tech.com or find someone in your area who will do it for a couple of beer tokens :afro:

Cool i thought the windows basically shut when the car was turned off or similar.

So what other mod's have you done or would recommend for under £100?

my side repeaters have a chrome cover over so you can't see the orange bulb, they were from ebay but I can't remember the seller, very happy with them

Also I bought the Touran Aero rear wiper blade instead of the Polo/Golf item as its bigger and clears as much of the screen as the standard one

they no longer do the logo ones and if you see them on Ebay i think they are cheap Hong Kong sh!te which don't fit properly so don't buy those;

think the plain black plastic are £15-£20 a pair from the stealers

As long as the mod is correct and you leave it connected electrically then you should not get a fault code.

R32 aluminium trim is a bit too pricey and a bit too LOUD for my tastes.  Just got some satin black interior door handle cover pull trim things, part numbers and prices here for a 3 door right hand drive:

Driver's side 3B2867172DA94 (£12.38)
& small insert piece 3B0867175A94 (£2.96)

Passenger side 1J0867171AA94 (£3.66)

Drivers side here is for 3 door only with space for front window switches.  Passenger side above would also fit rear passenger (near side) door.

1.8T intercooler ventilation through arch liner
Not a very visible mod, hopefully a bit more functional but can be done tidily to look good.
Basically add venting to arch liner behind intercooler to improve the restrictive air-flow.

It took me about 45mins on my golf. Not that hard to be honest. The hardest part is faffing around with the metal clip which is the case with standard bulbs anyway.

FK Automotive have a 10% offer off 3 different colours (chrome, red or black) of angel eye headlights for the mk4 golf. and on top of that there is a 5 euro discount if you sign up to their newsletter (which you can quickly unsubscribe from if you want)
I just ordered the black ones for £116 delivered, the cheapest i have seen for these?

I'm going to go for one of those, how do you get the original gearknob off?

its really easy mate, the frame of the gaitor is flexible along the sides so gently push them inward and lift the frame and gaitor inside out leaving the shaft and gearknob exposed then cut the jubilee clip/cable tie around the gearknob and pull upwards.

powergasket. uprated inlet manifold gasket as the standard one is less good basically. this reduces inlet temps. £54 inc vat. going to fit when it arrives.

well up on vortex may threads and logs and runs taken with the powergasket fitted to the inlet manifold. oem one is sh!t and provides heatsoak. good to do when pushing for that extra bit. fitted along with a FMIC will give super low inlet temps. i'm going to fit it and report from there :p

powergasket and FMIC better than a cold air feed, cool the air after the turbo not before it

Am I right in thinking fmic cause more fuel consumption due to cooler air being ducked up? I'm not completely savey in this area, I've seen the TT mode for the arch and wondering if a forge SMIC would benefit from this?

£700 for an intercooler?!

Anyways the FMIC should be the last thing you fit before mapping. You're trying to fill something about three times the size so you're bound to get more lag and fuel consumption until it's mapped to take the intercooler into account

Race look front bumper (abs). £90. I like the look of it fitted.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FK-VW-Golf-Mk4-98-04-Race-Look-Front-Sports-Bumper-ABS-Plastic-/170886573463?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27c9a22d97

ive got that one and you can have it for £60, spoke to the dealer and said the splitter fits on no probs, you'll need a badgless grill or a Kamei which i have too and looks pretty good with the Kamei badge

the items were in stock and its a joke tbh James there customer service is none existent, Ive had x2 emails from them in really bad English that's it, saying they haven't received an order from me and can i give them the order number i received from my bank statement. so gave them that and still waiting for a reply that was a week ago. I email them once a day as well.

i think with just the bumper total would of been about 62 posted however i also ordered a few other things such as headlamps, grill mesh as i want to see what i can do with metal mesh, tow-strap, wind-deflectors, hubcentric spacers and cill gaurds for my brother so all in all i paid zero on postage as the entire order came to over £150 and i put in deal10 to their  promotional code which i think takes off about 5-10% of your order. not too bad

There is a lot posts of mods to get through (and a lot of posts that don't list mods ), and a lot that is now out of date so links no longer work. Is there any way of a list being made of the most popular 'cheap' mods with up to date links?

you can get some bespoke fitted car mats made up for under £100 from www.justmatz.co.uk

i got some made for mine (pics should be in the link under my signature)

if your car doesn't already have it you could get an OEM front arm rest for about £100

Car mats sound good to me, probably the only thing I could fit without the aid of a Haynes Manual and trying to predict the future in the entrails of a sacrificial goat.

auto lock is when you go over 10mph the car doors lock and the same with the windows when you turn off the engine I believe,

Cool i thought the windows basically shut when the car was turned off or similar.

Like the idea of auto lock :)

So what other mod's have you done or would recommend for under £100?

I have had auto-lock of several cars....BM, Merc, Rover 75.  Never too sure I like it.  I guess its safe, but then when I get out of the car and go to get something off the back seat the doors still locked  :undecided: I have a Merc E Class and the auto-lock mechanism on that opens all the doors when you open the drivers door.
