It probably has to do with delivery delays, I think it's a good market too also because the GTI sits just behind the tax tresholds. But there are so many direct imports from Germany that dilute the market at the moment. Cars that are 5k cheaper but have 1 or 2 years with no warranty left.
I started considering the Cupra Leon Hybrid which was super cheap with incentives but since this is a mid-life crisis car I decided to go with a new petrol
I always liked the GTI, but I thought it would be too expensive based on listed price. So I went to see the Octavia RS but I realized the Golf has good discounts and would be only 3k more expensive with more resale value. So here I am!
Other hot hatches... not really. With the taxes, they are much more expensive. For example, the Type-R has a 1600€ carbon tax at purchase and a whopping 1800€ road tax per year. There's a 20€ per kilowatt surcharge over 185.
