R32UK's MPS
« on: 22 January 2012, 15:40 »
Just when I thought I would never buy another R32 due to the spiralling cost of petrol... I have a car which is more uneconomical. I introduce to you the Mazda MPS!

Pro's

Nice half leather seats
Xenons
18" wheels as std
256+ bhp
doesnt stand out
LSD
Bose stereo (which isnt that great tbh)

Con's

Cost a fcuking fortune to run
£445 tax per year
not as good quality interior as the golf

Looks good. For some reason I thought you had a white one.

Much prefer these gen 1 MPS models to the current Gen 2s. The new ones look far too over-styled for my liking.

I think with the gen 2 they took on board the hype that the gen 1 didnt look hot hatch enough. works for me though

The other thing that gets me with the Gen 2 is that they didn't stick any more power in. Fair does the MPS is already a quick car but it leaves me with the impression that the gen 1 is better value.

Any interior pics?

I do somewhere but will have to dig them out. tbf I was up against a VXR yesterday, and despite the VXR poping and banging the MPS held it all the way.. only later i discovered that my tyres were running at 24psi  :lipsrsealed:

Not bad. A good VXR with nothing more than an exhaust can see up to 260hp (depending on the dyno) so that's about even with the MPS. IIRC then the Nurburgring Edition was rated at 256 with the Remus (which is the same as the MPS  :nerd:).

Although tbh I find VXR's very inconsistent. For example my mate just bought a standard Arctic Astra which can fairly give my Stage 1 GTI a run, and yet another guy I know with a standard Arctic (same age of car) just gets left behind. Obviously there's a bit of driver skill involved but there's a clear power discrepancy between the two Arctic's.

Think they're great cars though. Unfortunately a bit common IMO but great looking and sound pretty  too. Prefer the standard exhaust sound now as almost every VXR I see has a Remus.

Also meant to ask, is your MPS not mapped though?

No... was booked in to get it mapped as I was going to keep for a few months. Then changed my mind and decided I am now looking at another car in the next few weeks  :lipsrsealed:

Came up against a few VXR's in the GTi (revo'd)... every one of them got left behind  :lipsrsealed:
