Ok so another little update!

Did a little fiddling with the loom yesterday and removed the sai wiring as it's not wanted!

Also been to tps today and collected all this lot today!!

40l of quantum platinum (was on offer! Haha)
5 oil filters
Tensioner
Hydraulic damper
Non a/c aux belt
Crank seals
Oil pick up
Agu injector seats
Banjo washers
Injectors o-rings
Dipstick tubes
New main bolts which were suprisingly cheap!!
Couple of gaskets
And main shell bearings but only half a set as instead of giving me 5 pairs they have me 5 halves!

I also missed the delivery of my flexhone tool so gotta try get to the post office and get it!

Ok time for another little update!

I managed to pick my flex hone tool up from the post office!

So I set about honing the bores, got it ok for a first attempt but after some advice from jnl I managed to get the angle of the crosshatch a bit more like 45 degrees

And then a few more parts arrived!
Baffled sump from forge! And also piston rings and crankshaft thrust washers.

I then set about gapping all the rings. After some online research I went for:
0.018" top
0.016" middle
0.018" oil ring

After the gapping I marked up the pistons 1-4 and fitted all the rings ready for install!

I then started install the rods onto the pistons remembering to use the redline assembly lube.
I got 2 done but found that fitting the gudgin pin retaining clips is a pain and ran out of time! I have also lost 3 of the clips so either have to buy some new ones or try remove the ones on my standard rods!

Just need to finish putting the rods/pistons together and then I can drop them in along with the crankshaft and move on from there!

If you could give Dave some pointers on the 'right direction' that would be great.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Ok I have to apologise for the lack of updates!!
Just been really busy lately and tbh when the landrover got stolen a lost a load of motivation!
BUT! Work has been restarted!

I'll start by saying the project for put to the side for a couple of weeks as I bought a new car to replace the landy and spent a little time doing a few small fixes and services etc!
Some may disapprove but to be honest it's an awesome car! Haha
Got myself a little 1.8 mx5 mk2! Haha

It's a tidy little car and is loads of fun due to it handling like a gokart! Haha
Can't complain for a grand! Haha

Anyway back to the golf!
I got the piston retainer clips and finished installing the pistons onto the rods.

I then found sometime to pull the bottom end out of the garage and give it it's final clean before assembly!

I then installed the crank and piston oil squirters.
Also applying the redline assembly lube to all bearing surfaces etc

I then started installing the pistons and rods with the calio coated bearings!

I then had quite a big break from work but the next job was ensuring everything was ok before torquing everything up and then installing the oil pump, chain and tensioner and then the crank seals.

I then installed the forge baffled sump! And that pretty much finished off the bottom end!!

I then arranged to meet Royce to buy the already build head he had for sale (big thanks for driving to meet me by the way!)
Ok the meantime I set about ripping out all the aircon and ac tad and installing the wellycooler core!

The wellycooler!

And test fitting the r32 rep!

I then went to pick up the head from Royce!

When I got home I set about rebuild the head I had already stopped and then I switched the vvt tensioner from the aum head I had into the new agu head!

And that pretty much brings is to the present!!
The next plans are to clean and paint the head and rocker cover and then I can finish assembling the engine with cambelt and ancils ect ect and then strip out the current engine ready for a bay tidy up!!

I'll try and keep abit more ontop of it from now on! Haha

So time for another update!

Started this morning by cleaning up the head I bought from Royce. Got rid of any oil, grime and dirt and then masked it up and started to paint it!

I then painted the rocker cover in red to match the block....came out quite well :)

Fitted the headgasket and then got the head in position.

Timing belt and thermostat installed.

I then painted the cambelt covers and oil cap in vht wrinkle black...didn't come out as wrinkly as I would have liked but It's ok! :)

Covers installed and few pics at the end if the day!

Main engine is pretty much done now...just need to clean and paint any ancillaries, and then get around to ripping the old engine out!
