So does this mean the K04 wasn't at fault?

Yeah I think the original 001 was ok as it was the catch can and venting the breather to atmosphere that solved the problem!

Now stuck as to weather I fit the original 001 to the rebuilt engine as the Ecu already has a decent map in it and will be better for running the engine in ir do I fit the bigger new 001 and run on actuator pressure to run the engine in until I get it mapped!?!?  :undecided:

bit of a dilemma then bud. Personally I'd stick with the newer one...

Do the breathers on these engines block at all?  Worth having a poke around before you rip the motor out and get all heavy on it.

The risk with your Discovery is that you'll get further from safety before it beaches itself.

Also you have a winch on the front, which is handy if you need to recover someone else, but rubbish if you've driven into something you want to get out of cos your only option is further forwards.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Ok I've not updated this I'm ages!
Mainly because I've been crazy busy with work and family etc and also been working on/fixing the disco
....but that's another story
BUT! It's time to get back on this!

Just started work on the engine

Got it in the garage

Stripped the loom off and tagged everything up

Removed the egr and hard pipes that won't be needed and started attaching my home made engine stand bracket

Just need to make another bracket for the stand attachment and then I can start stripping it down!

bit of a dilemma then bud. Personally I'd stick with the newer one...

Yeah I think ok going to dude just gonna drive it on actuator pressure until it's mapped!

DH - the breathers do block up but mine were clear but either way I already had £600 worth of rods and other bits for he rebuild so it's being done anyway haha

Ok update time!

I've finally had some time to do some work on the engine!

Got it all up onto the home made stand...

Started the strip down process which included removing all the water lines, fuel rail and injectors, oil cooler etc etc

I bagged and tagged everything as I removed it just to make things easier

I got to this point and got stuck as I needed the VW ribe tool for the headbolts which I had ordered and I also couldn't (and still can't as the compressor has packed up!) remove the crankshaft pulley bolt!

A few pics of a couple of bits I ordered...

I then set around removing and stripping the head down!

The pistons look pretty horrible! Good job a have some more haha

My little set up

And stripping the large port head....

All bagged up

Removing the valves

All removed and cleaned up!

The next step for the head is to try find somewhere to acid dip it to get it back like new and also get rid if all the carbon build up!

I also need to move onto the lower block and try get the crankshaft bolt out so I can strip the pistons and rods out and then clean up and paint the block and also hone it before starting to build it back up!

Any suggestions or anything are welcome
Cheers
