Hi guys,
Got back from my local dealers last night after agreeing a deal and putting the deposit down for a new Carbon Grey Edition 35
Now there's just the small matter of an up-to 5 month wait!
So this post is mainly to introduce mysef to the forum after reading many a post over the past couple of months, trying to find out everything there is to know about the car before I took the plunge!
Spec is;
Edition 35, DSG
Carbon Grey, Grey Watkins Glen alloys
ACC
RNS 510 Stereo
Luxury Pack
Cruise Control
Service Pack
Was going to go Graphite Blue but changed my mind at the last minute!
-
Along wait for you...never mind worth the wait and plenty to read on this forum...
-
Welcome to the forum
Congrats on your order ... looks a nice spec
Plenty to read on here while you wait !
-
Great colour and will choice ;)
Not a fan of acc having had it on my rocco and given the stock suspension would be coming off
Delays on dsg cars it would seem as my manual was about 15 weeks including Christmas
-
Thanks guys... I nearly went for a manual that was sat on the forecourt to avoid the wait, but spending this much money I'd rather have my own spec.
Apparently VW are saying 15 weeks for manual GTi's, and around 4 weeks extra for DSG's. Think I'll know the whole forum inside out by the time it comes!
Other than test driving a car with ACC and being able to tell a significant difference (albeit on a 15 min drive) I felt for an expensive car it's something that'd be nice to have...and I don't think it'll harm with 230hp (maybe more after a few months...) to keep it in check
Incidentally I'm upgrading from a Leon FR550...and with the possible exception of the exterior looks, the GTi feels like a leap forwards all round.
*To mods; feel free to move into the 'New Members' section, I only noticed that section after posting*

Nice spec(http://www.websmileys.com/sm/fingers/fing32.gif)
The wait is the hard bit, as if you didn't know that already
Ask your dealer for your commission number that way you can track your car thro vw cust services when you want and you will keep your dealer sweet as you won't have to bug him for updates...
VW cust serv no.0800 0833 920 once you have your commission number...
How many doors?

Really really don't want white, otherwise I'd be straight in! Doing design at uni shows that white hides surface features (no offence to people with white cars, they are very striking!)

Thanks for that info...maybe if I ring every day they'll make it a priority to get me off their back?! 5 door, would've gone 3 except I have slight OCD with my cars, and the amount of times I have people in the back I'd be literally whincing as people's shoes scuff the back of the leather seats! Also means it'll still work in the future if some mini-Big_Daves come along!
-
If you saw ed35 in white, you would fall in love with it
-
Big Dave, welcome, great choice of car and best colour for a GTI IMHO. I have had Black and White (both great) and now Carbon Grey and don't regret it at all. I get a lot on admiring glances and nice comments from people so you can be assured you have made the right decision.

Haha, certainly not denying I wouldn't love it, heart's on the grey now, and the dealer has my deposit!

Thanks for the kind words Edi35. The Carbon one I've seen was parked next to a Blue Graphite and it looked loads better (may be my colour blindness coming in too!)

No worries pal, it's there if you need it
5drs that's the same reason I have 5drs...I have a 18mnth old girl and the extra doors are a god send, or tho the kicking in spine isn't
-
5 month wait Ouch..
-
They say that long but mine was 10 weeks
-
They say that long but mine was 10 weeks
Yeah when I put my order in I was told to expect a 6mnth wait but got it in 4mnths and a bit...
-
Welcome Dave; sorry to put a damper on things but; don't get your hopes too high that you'll have your car in up to 5 months. I ordered my R on 4th Feb and haven't got a confirmed build week yet; I'm pretty sure the problem is the DSG being in short supply; VW are putting this on everything now and it's causing a shortage.
I hope you do get your car in <5 months [But only if I do too ]
-
That's the thing I like about the GTi GTD, it does literally everything, including get you kicked through your seat!
The dealers I spoke to said anywhere between 2 and 5 months so it does seem like a bit of a lottery. If it comes in time for the start of September though it'll be a nice birthday present!
That's not nice to hear RickS, do you keep pestering the dealer? I'd be ringing most days if mine's going to be that long getting the line!
As a side note, apparently there's only been 30 edition 35's registered?!
-
I have been thinking of getting a 5 door DSG edition 35 but having to wait 5 months would drive me mad.
Spoke to the local dealer and he reckons they have been getting them through in 12 weeks, and as quick as 7 weeks for a manual. He is so confident that he is prepared to order one to my spec and if it doesn't come in a reasonable time I can take it or leave it.
-
You could always try contacting the user EVO1986 on here he is a vw dealer and very helpful he may have inside info on delivery time or be able to get you one quicker. I know If I ever buy another vw he will be first port of call as I have messed about by other dealers far too much.
-
This sounds suspiciously like some dealers are getting priority?!
Also, I'd be careful what the dealer defines as 'reasonable'. Either way, nice to hear a positive
RickS, do you think your delay could be to do with 4wd also? There's a lot of 4wd VAG cars now.
Thanks Snoopy. Only issue I'd have with that at the moment is the deposit is none-refundable, and the price I hammered out the dealer is quite good considering what it sounds like some have paid. Will bare that in mind from now on though!

Part of the issue on delivery is whether your dealer has specific allocation as this can effect the time for VW to give the dealer order confirmation. Some del ears may have cars on order which you can tweak the spec on (as we did with the Pirelli we bought what was to be their demo)
blimey if on 30 on the road at the moment 10% of them were at Pistonheads sunday service, PH white one, a 5 door red on 19s and mine
-
There's got to be more than 30 edition 35's, about 15 on autotrader, about 20 on VW site about 10 people with them on here. Still not a lot though. I don't see many standard GTI's, well not the amount as i did the mk5's ,sign of the times. I might not ever see another ed35 on the road.

It may not be a million miles off, the auto trader ads are VW dealers so are the same as the ones that appear on VW's website.
Either way, I've only seen one other, apart from the one at the dealers which I test drove a month or 2 back
-
I've seen a few Mk6 GTI's and only 1 Edition 35 (Candy White). The Edition 35 is a great looking car in the flesh.
Mostly though I've seen Mk6 GTD's.
I can live with my car being exclusive though
-
Welcome to Edition 35. Sounds similar to mine, less the ACC. I managed to get hold of a dealer ordered one, so had a 1 month wait.
I ve only seen one other 35 on the road, same colour, wheels and number of doors...that was on day 3 of having it..couldn't believe it. I don't even see a huge amount of Std GTIs around, the most frequently sighted is the GTD.
My keyring has basically broken already, so don't hold out hope for that...!
Now at 2.9k and everything seems to be working well.

Dealer called today to say car's ordered but will be up to a month before I get a build date! You got lucky Flying Haggis. They did offer me an identical car but with nav, and for 1300 extra which I turned down. Can't justify that much money for something I won't use often and only brings the delivery forward.

I suspect the figure of 30 came from the following;
http://howmanyleft.co.uk/?q=Golf+gti+edition
It says the site is regularly updated, but doesn't say how often or when it was last updated. Also, the 30 vehicles relate to cars registered in 2011, with no data given for 2012.
So, incomplete data.
-
My dealer has only sold two ED35's so far. The demonstrator (in black) which went elsewhere and mine which is the only customer order they have had for one. Mine is the only 12 plate and only a handful of GTI Mk6's where I live. Oddly there are two 12 plate R's! One RB with Silver 19's and one CW with Black 19's. TBH the RB looks way better.

Yes but its saying 30 manual and 28 semi automatics, so 58 in total in 2011. Sounds about right.
-
As far as I know my dealer's only done 1, and that was an ex demo. They're also saying they just aren't shifting GTi's in general as someone has said already. Edi35 I've also seen more R's near me, 1 as opposed to no 35's. I really wanted the GTI in RB! Suppose the R owners need some distinction though!
Ye I've been a bit dim there missing it being split into manual and DSG!
-
mine is the only one my dealer has sold (they have a demo in the group) and don't expect to sell another, playing a more long term game with this one (given the fluctuations in year 1 values) as i have the sh'tty for the city for daily abuse, hoping they sell less than 222 so i can wind my wife up i have the more exclusive car can't see them selling 2,300 like the Ed30
-
Here's hoping. Although longer term the Ed 30 held up well...

agreed as are Pirelli residuals

Fingers crossed for when it comes to swapping time!
-
RickS, do you think your delay could be to do with 4wd also? There's a lot of 4wd VAG cars now.
No Dave, not 4wd, it's definitely the DSG, apparently the Chinese market is going mad for cars with it on and it's putting the factory under pressure. I'm assured categorically that the Chinese are not getting priority though.

I speak to the dealer at least twice a week plus emails, they're not slacking. My order was accepted at the factory the week after I placed it. It's definitely the DSG that's causing hold ups; mines come back to week 24 from 27 but still not confirmed.

Week 24's only 3 weeks away, they should be able to almost confirm it by now surely?
Think my dealer's already getting fed up of me, only paid my deposit on Friday and been in 3 times since...the joys of passing on the way to work!

I'm assuming they can't issue that until there's a build date set? If so then they've got another 3 weeks of me!
-
Now there's just the small matter of an up-to 5 month wait!
Welcome to the forum Big Dave. If it's of any consolation to you regarding the wait, I ordered my Ed35 on 3rd Feb and I'm picking it up on Monday   , so that's just 15 weeks and 3 days, a full 6 weeks ahead of the 5 month wait I was also quoted! So there's always hope of getting it quicker! I must admit though that the waiting is absolute agony, but it'll definitely be worth it in the end.

A far as I'm aware you shud be able to get your com number pretty much straight away, as soon as your dealer has placed the order with the factoy the com number shud be available...
If this is incorrect I'm sure someone here will let you know...
-
Comm number is the order number so generated instantly as long as you have allocation.......

Cheers evo, that makes more sense!

Think I'll be asking about my comm number this week them!
Also I'm going to add tyre pressure monitoring to my order first thing tomorrow, I've just got my 4th puncture in 12 months and had totally missed it is not standard on the Golf...funnily it is on my '08 Leon... :undecided:

For £40 quid you can't go wrong!
-
For £40 quid you can't go wrong!
Certainly can't! I used to think it was a pointless option for lazy people, but after it lit my dash up on Saturday it's proved it's worth, as I wouldn't have checked them again until this weekend coming, and visibly it looks fine.
Getting my new tyre from Goodyear at cost is more than saving for the 40 quid though

How you getting them at cost? I spent £485 fitted on my Goodyear F1 asymmetric 2's....that's the cheapest I cud get for them for, kwikfit wanted £600+
-
Same tyre, 225 40 18 was £78 fitted. I know someome at goodyear so got lucky! I had 2 put on the front last year from the Internet for £120 each which was still the best retail price

Sort me out ??? !!!
I hate the Bridgestones that came on the car !! but really cannot justify spending so much on new Goodyears so early on, with a good discount & selling my current tyres I might break even??
:lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed:

Haha sorry Scott! I do agree the Bridgestone's are rubbish, my Leon came with them and I couldn't believe the difference after a few miles! I wonder if VW could fit Goodyears before I get mine?!

As long as you can supply your dealer with te Goodyears then I don't see a problem...
-
The car might turn up with Dunlop sh*t max on it??? I had 2 brand new GTI's with these on, but they were good in the snow thats it though!!

I got bridges on my std Seattle wheels....

Agreed, hence me fitting Goodyears to my monza's

Was hoping they'd fit them at the factory but that's probably asking a bit much!
The Bridgey's were rubbish all round, except in cold and wet. And the economy was crap with them on.
Heard the Conti's aren't supposed to be bad.
I'm fed up of waiting now...only been a week and a half!

Dunlops are better than Briges by far  you maywell get Contis ?
-
When you read tyre reviews Bridgey's are constantly at the bottom, including when some budget tyres are thrown in.
There'll probably be a new tyre out by the time mine comes though!
-
Really surprised the Re050A's get such a slating on here, seem to work well on the Leon and were great on my old Integra Type-R.

I've only run them on my Leon FR when I got that and didn't like anything about them to be honest, but different people drive differently, and they are still on the market so some people must like them!
-
Very true, will definitely give the eagle Assymetrics 2's a go on the Golf when the Dunlops are ready for a change

F1's are a great tyre, and a fare few of us have them on here...
-
Had Dunlops on my previous MK6 and I thought they were OK. I have Pirelli's on my ED35 from the factory and these are better than the Dunlops.
-
Had a set of P-zeros myself on my last ride...there not bad at all!
-

A few weeks ago I replaced all 4 Dunplops for F1 Asymetric 2's and they feel loads better, that horrible road noise has gone completely.
Jim
-
The Goodyear's must be good, apparently the factory are struggling to keep up with demand at the moment. May have something to do with everyone coming off winter tyres also though.
-
A big thumb's up for the Goodyears from me, i've got assymetric 1's on the CK's and just bought assymetric 2's for the talladega's.
Before that i've had Dunlop sport's(Crap), Bridgestone potenza's(Not bad) and Conti's(quite good) on a MK6 but find the Goodyear assymetric's the best IMO.

So the dealer rang me today whilst I was at work. The salesman's been on holiday for 3 weeks. After ordering ok the 14th May, he tells me the car is being built 'as we speak', and the estimated delivery date is 'end of June/1st week of July' unbelievabley happy! If its delivered 1st week of July that's 7 weeks from ordering  (sorry to run it in for people who waited 6+months!)
-
Wow, that's quite a good chunk of time you've 'skipped' waiting for your new car!
Did the dealer actually say to you when you ordered that it would be 5 months from date of order for the car?
How come it's suddenly being built & much earlier than anticipated?
I'd be Interested to know the current build dates at the moment for most trims, especially the 'Match'.
-
He said that he occassionally heres of cars coming in realtively short time, but VW's own guidance on the day said '15 weeks for GTI variants, extended further for DSG models.'
Maybe they've given me a manual............!
Not sure why it's so much earlier, my guess would be that now that rumours for the Mk7 are getting more steam that people aren't ordering new and are waiting for that.
He did tell me the someone ordered an Up at the end of may, and he has a delivery date of end of July, so it appears that all new builds have a relatively short delivery at the moment
Either way, happy doesn't say it!

I know, yesterday dragged after I found out!

It's on the boat...delivery first week of July hopefully!

Chances are its a cancelled order and meets the same spec so goes to a different owner.

Nah not a cancelled order...same comm number I was given originally. Everyone's are quicker than anticipate at the moment... Markey, all being well yours could be earlier!

I reckon it's VW's Market Machine Gun, I reckon they continue to drip feed all markets but move round each market to have a push on it. Would make sense to say build enough for a big boat to the states, southern hemisphere etc...
And it's just The Gun's pointing at europe this month.
Either that or they over ordered on Carbon Grey paint....
-
Just got a phonecall today from VW - mine is at the port in Germany
-
Join the club, had an e-mail yesterday to say mine is sitting at Emden. I guess another 3/4 weeks till I actually take ownership which is likely to feel like an eternity !
-
They're all coming at once! Apparently mine's at Grimsby now, delivery hopefully early next week, and I'm away on business for 12 out of the next 14 days from Monday!!

Ah Grimsby, that's where Scott's docked...now expect your car to be at the dealers in the next 3-5 days, I found the transport company were quite quick but mine was from Sheerness, can't remember how long Scott's took but if I remember correctly his was at his dealers a day or 2 before mine...
The end is insight mate, happy days!

Got a phone call today from the dealer that suggests it will be next Thursday
And I've got out of working away that weekend so I can now play with my new toy!
However, the dealer asked if I could pay for the car on Friday so he can meet his sales targets, so I'm going to re-negotiate on a tank of fuel if that's the case.

I'm not sure I'd pay for a car in full until I'd actually received and checked it over.

Good point!

That is my initial thought - I'm not so keen. However, I need to go down anyway to give them my private plate retention document, so will talk to him about it then.
-
That sounds like a right pain in the A hole, Dave esp as you've done them a massive favour by paying now to help there figures, the vouchers sound cool tho...
Just hope it can be sorted out satisfactory, but of course NAME AND SAME AWAY if it doesnt..
Cough Cough FREE FUEL Cough Cough!!!!

Haha the free fuel was the negotiation for paying early, the vouchers as it's not here when they first said, and if it's not ready when I'm back then they'll have to really try to stop me from cancelling my order!
Will name after it's collected, with the final experience, then people can make their own minds up
-
Hope everything goes to plan now. Out of interest, what's the plate? (PM me if you don't want to post it here)
Must be bloody awesome going by one of your other posts ££££££££££££££££

HW 1
Was my grandfathers, who gave it to my side of his family when he died earlier this year.
I can't imagine anyone would be stupid enough to clone a car with an obvious plate on like this!
Anyone sees me around the Wakefield or midlands area give us a wave

Had a call this morning...the ED35 is ready!!!!!!! *
*Shame I was sat in Heathrow at the time and don't get back from Moscow until Monday.
Delivery Monday morning!
-
Happy days mate! Must be bizarre to be desperately wanting to return to the UK from Moscow. I doubt that's the case very often lol
How long I you wait from leaving the factory out of interest? My GTD is currently waiting on a ship at Emden port...

Excellent news Dave, oh the excitement must be killing you....I hope you've booked a few days off come Monday to play with your new toy...
-
Markey, June 21 it was physically on the boat, after being in Eden for about 5 days. If I was home now I could have had it on Friday, so 3 weeks. Bearing in mind I've had a week's delay, you may get yours quicker. RickS got his R last Thursday and his came over on the same boat. 2-3 weeks and you'll have it...bet you're bursting with excitement!
Funny you should say about time off GTD...this job I have finishes on Tuesday so I'm on the job hunt from Tuesday!
-
It's here!!! It's amazing, I love it, although I've only driven 8 miles home via the filling station (brimmed with Super courtesy of the dealer  )
Serious note, after the butterflies a couple of weeks ago just the drive home has reassured me spending this much on this car was the right choice, it's brilliant. Picture shortly...!

Good to hear Dave, looking forward to the pic fest....
-
good stuff, always good to know you've made the right choice, absolutely love mine but not getting much use as using the 500 for commute into london at moment, might dust it off later in the week
-
Yay  It's here at last
Look forward to hearing more...
-
Nice one, glad ya loving it! Look forward to the pics.
-
Big Dave, glad you have your car and you are so pleased with it, I hope you have many miles of fun, I certainly am. Pics please?
-
Sorry to bore people who have seen these countless times, but I'm proud of it

I think it looks fantastic...it turns heads everywhere! And even though I haven't been over about 3k revs it sounds brilliant.
Also, little things make you feel you're in a car that someone has cared about when it's been designed, the carpet in the door pockets, the neat little shelf in the glove box for the handbook, the bottle opener that holds your drinks in place, the magnetised flap on the leather handbook cover, the feel and look of the steering wheel, gas strut under the bonnet (a friend's Scirroco R just has the flimsy metal hook), the feel of the materials, the look of the dials, red calipers, the fact at 6-foot-8 I can get comfortable........I could go on!
I know some people have said on here that it's not up to the quality VW make out by charging so much, but first impressions are totally bang on.
Either way, I'm totally sold  Thanks for showing so much interest guys too...the Mk6 has been around a while and would have understood if no-one could be arsed with someone else coming along with one!
Going for VentureShielding tomorrow, pics of the job afterwards for those interested.
-
Excellent mate. Looks awesome!! glad youre in no way disappointed with it.
You're words are making my wait for mine even harder!!! Haha
Ps, you can edit your tag at the bottom now from "ordered" to "in possession"
-
Yes I agree awesome! How could we possibly get bored of looking at a carbon grey ED35 it is  I also agree with your comments and have no complaints about the quality of the MK6's I have had. Don't sPend too much time looking at it and get out there and drive it as much as possible  I wouldn't worry about driving it below 3k these need to driven normally out of the showroom but take care of the brakes for the first few hundred miles.
-
Thanks for the signature reminder Markey! It really is worth the wait...yours shouldn't be a million miles away now I'm guessing?!
Certainly am doing Edi35 (driving), was only being steady for the first 100 miles, will start adding more load now...it sounds glorious.
-
looks superb Dave and the fastest colour, car just feels special in a way my rocco never did for the reasons you state
-
Congratulations Dave. Looks the business, and the best colour too. Really like the standard Watkins Glen wheels as well.
I still enjoy driving my GTD as much now after a year of ownership as I did when I first took delivery. On the build quality front; maybe I've been lucky as my car's been pretty much squeak and rattle free, apart from the occasional buzz from the dashboard. I agree with you, there's lots of little touches that make the interior a nice place to be.
Enjoy.............................
-
Very very tidy love the ED35. DSG is awesome too.
-
Ay it exists lol...and it's looking mighty  too, all you need now is a ED35 badge for the rear wud set it off very nicely oh and maybe some ED35 seat inserts and a footrest of course, but of course that little stuff can be added in time  just enjoy and care for it.....as if that last bit needed saying lol
Congrats mate!!!
Did you get the keyring? :lipsrsealed:

And a plaque ? :undecided:
-
think the 35 on the rear is a must, i've taken the GTI off the back and car looks less cluttered with just the 35
i ran mine in gently before i put my plan in action and have to say as a standard car its a cracker out the box
-
The grey looks fantastic, it has such a depth to it when you see it in the flesh.
I think the DSG is excellent. I have a company Jag at the moment and the auto on that is so clumsy it's untrue.
A 35 badge on the rear is one of the few things if like to do, give it a few weeks and it'll be done.
No keyring! The dealer gave me some VW ones but if the ED35 keyringd come from VW then it may well be on its way.
Haven't been out in it today, but I'm genuinely looking forward to the morning when I can get back in it!!
-
Saw a grey GTi yesterday and felt gutted I had bought a CW car, enjoy

When I bought my GTD, I narrowed the colour choice down to either Candy White or Carbon Grey. As I'd had white cars in the late 80's / early 90's when white was one of THE colours for hot / warm hatches, I decided on Carbon Grey and haven't regretted my choice - seems easier to look after than black (my previous 3 cars were black - must be a glutton for punishment!). I agree with Big Dave, Carbon Grey does look good - especially in bright light after polishing, glazing and waxing.
-
always been smitten with the carbon grey, the diamond pearl black on the Pirelli is a pain in the a$$ to look after
-
Love the wheels and the colour
-
Black cars aren't for me...they look brilliant when pristine but the reality is they never are for more than a few hours at a time!
Front was Venture Shielded on Wednesday morning, and have already heard the first stone being stopped by it today. Will upload pictures on Monday of how unobtrusive the film is.
Bit of a gripe, there seems to be a creak coming from the passenger rear door. Sounds like leather rubbing, if it hasn't calmed down by the time the dealer wants it for a check up at 1000 miles then I'll mention it.
Thanks for all the positive comments guys, the car attracts admiring glances everywhere it goes! Going to be adding a few miles onto it this weekend, heading up to Yorkshire to see the family (the long twisty way of course ) Then next week will be detailing.
The Leon went today (my brother's got it from me) and I think I only realised as it went how attached I've been to that car, hope the Golf exceeds the very high expectations I have for it!
-
I reckon the creak comes from the lower trim section on the b piller
-
It's coming from that area Wigit, will investigate (although need to work out how...I'm the only one driving it and it's a bit awkward whilst driving!)
Did around 350 miles at the weekend visiting my parents, starting to add more load onto the engine and the car really is starting to come alive!
I can't find a situation where the car is out of it's depth, town, motorway, fast A-roads, tight B-roads.
Cleaned on Monday. The dealer actually did a fair job of preparing (apart from the inside of the windscreen was filthy, which I found when the sun finally came out!)
Mid clean and clean pics below...
Finished;
Will have to dust the SLR off and get some decent pictures.
And for those interested, close ups of the Venture Shield. This is the only giveaway;
From the front;
And from the rear;
Finally a bit of a rant;
Why the f#*k do dealers, not just VW, insist on putting the oily crappy s#*t on new alloy wheels!? As far as I can see all it does is attract crap and ruin my sponge!?
And the ipod/iphone connector doesn't properly fit an iphone 4.
Other than that, it's  all the way!
-
Looks Good
Have you had the ventureshiled across the front of the bonnet and all of the front bumper?
Who did it for you and what was the £££? Worthy investment IMO. If mine hadn't had a few chips when I got it, I'd have had VS as it is a fantastic product.
-
There is no way i'd have it half way along the bonnet and wings, it'd drive me nuts!!
-
No chance of me getting Venture Shield - looks very odd
Jim
-
Not for me either, it's like people buying a nice leather sofa and then covering it with a throw to protect it, just enjoy it for what it is
-
There is an option to only have half the bonnet done, I went for the full bonnet so the only line you see is on the wings. It's slightly more obvious there as it was just after polishing and waxing. Covertech midlands are the company that did mine, they do loads for Ducati Coventry and also Morgan at the factory, and charged around the £500 mark.
I know it's not to everyone's taste and that's fair enough, but after the state of the front of my last 2 vehicles after just a couple of year's it's almost a no brainer now for me. The streak effect on the bonnet has pretty much faded entirely now it's had a couple of days with the sun on it.
From a couple of feet away even the keenest detailed wouldn't notice when looking from the front until they're given a heads up :) After looking around after mine being done there are more as covered than you'd think.
-
I know there's a lot of talk about VW's paint being cr@p but I have to say my 3 year old gti hardly had a stone chip on it when I sold it.
-
looking good
-
My ED35 has 8500 miles on the clock now and only one stone chip about 1.5mm on the bonnet which now I had touched and polished you can't see, therefore VS not for me and looks odd too. Might as well have bonnet bra  my CW MK6 had only a handful of chips after 2.5 years too.
-
i caught a chip on bonnet edge, i'm over it now
-
Looks very smart that

Each to there own and all that and it's definately worth doing if you do a lot of miles but if you had the whole bonnet done i would of had the whole wing done too.
-
Very nice mate!

Got to agree with everyone here, its the dogs doodars

Definitely wouldn't be having a bonnet bra...they look crap! You can't tell it's there now apart from the line on the wing (and boot lip, I forgot to mention). If you look at the front bumper and headlights you definitely can't tell it's there. Either way, it's on to stay.
Jimble, there was an option to have the wings done completely but didn't get a price for it, as that would have to be custom installed. The rest is a pre-cut kit from VS. Also, where the film ends on the wings there is a curve that might disguise any colour discrepancy (the door and back of the wing are on the same plane do any colour difference would be noticeable). Turns out I didn't need to worry about a colour difference. Apparently 3M VentureShield is the only one that is optically clear, as it's legal to use on headlights, and doesn't fade over the years.
Cheers for the compliments Rislar and Ginge!

Car's going in for its 1k checkup tomorrow after passing the 1000 mile mark last week whilst going to see the parents. Peak district roads were immense in the ED35, and the car transformed when using all the rev range into a properly quick, fun hatch. Still gets admiring glances and the lads at home (after initially taking the p*ss out of it being a 5 door) think it's brilliant now that they've seen it in the flesh. Took me nearly an hour to get in the pub with people asking about it!
When I called at the dealer to book it in yesterday, there was an identical ED35 with 'sold' in the window. Appears a few people have good taste
