Title: What engine swap can I make to my 2000 2.0 gti
Post by: ramprosimon on 08 September 2018, 20:27
Hi.
My name is Simon and recently I bought the above. Previously I owned a gti turbo diesel mk4 which had a lot more grunt. I bought this one as a project car so all options are on the table. Is it possible to fit the Audi TT engine to this model golf? And if so what other mods would be required. I’ve already got new suspension kit ( coil over ) and new brakes are next on the list.
Just want to put some animal in the old girl!....advice please?

Engine swap out for a 1.8t seems obvious choice, yes Audi and Skoda lumps are all 99% the same. Is yours a cable or drive by wire throttle?
It'll mean dropping most of the front end, transmission, driveshafts, hubs, brakes etc. Obvious things like the ECU, but I forget what else tbh. I'm sure there's plenty of threads and guidance in the mk4 section!
Check out the implications on your insurance first ;)
I know you're already committed, but general thinking is that it's easier to just start with a 1.8t...
