Title: Admiral Insurance.. Good in my opinion
Post by: Robracer on 24 June 2015, 23:23
Hi, today I had to contact Admiral about changing the car on my Comp policy from my MK3 Golf GTI to my newer MK4 Golf GTI. All it took was an email through their site, I then had a response via email within 20mins actioning my request.
One happy Admiral customer

Wait until your renewal comes through. I was with them last year.

Too true mate, I'm aware of the scary tactic they use to entice you into using their insurance for the first year, that's why I always jump from company to company every year, except once when Swinton managed to beat their own renewal price..
But the slight increase i've had to pay to go from golf to golf on this policy is the same as the Total premium prices on the comparison sites on this occasion. So I can't grumble at this situation

Admiral best there own quote year on year with me, wayyyy cheaper than any of the specialists. Although I'm still at the stage where each extra year no claims makes a big difference. This year will be year number 3

I've had to change companies every year for the last 4 because renewal quotes have been so high (in one case double the amount I paid the year before!) However, been doing some quick comparisons for the mk3 tdi and it looks like AXA are the cheapest and I'm currently with them. Cash back through Quidco and an extra 10% off a second vehicle insured with them too :)

Is it not possible to tell them you don't want to renew, then take out a new policy with the same company as a new customers?

No they'll figure you out quickly.

On another note, as I mentioned above I'm with Zenith. Recently moved house 6 miles and went online to change my details but was prompted to call them. They said they can't insure me at my new address and had to cancel my policy immediately. They couldn't give me a reason as to why but it is certainly a more secure area. Went to get quotes on go compare and only 8 companies from their database will cover me at this address.

If you go on a comparison site and run your details, most of the time your own insurance company will beat their own quote anyway.

For example, this year (March) my renew quote was £1,800 with Admiral. I had paid 900 the year before, so double. Went on a comparison site, ran my details and Admiral came back with £800. Gave them a ring, the guy on the phone then ran my details and told me he could knock a further £100 off. So I ended up paying £700, £1,100 less than my renew.

Essentially, renewal quotes are nonsense and just a punt in the hope people will auto-renew.
