Constant Engine Noise After Rebuild
« on: 30 April 2019, 13:39 »
Hi all,

Recently did a complete engine rebuild of a Mk2 1.8L engine, however after some miles of breaking the new engine in, a constant noise can be heard in which I'm really struggling to pinpoint in terms of it's location.

Is there a method I can use to localise where and what may be causing the noise?

I have a video uploaded to YouTube which you can view here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iO7X50utbXI

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

- Stefan

Remove your aux belt and run it briefly to see if noise goes away, could be bad bearings in water pump or alternator

Thanks for the reply!

I will definitely try that, thanks. The alternatior and water pump were new additions to the rebuild, but the power steering pump wasn't. Maybe that's on its way out?

Thanks.

Could be, no guarantee that new parts are not faulty either..
