DSG oil change
« on: 24 March 2019, 13:23 »
How much does a DSG oil change currently cost?
I’m thinking of having it done on my Mk7 MY 16 PP, 21k miles
Do I have to go to dealer to get it done quickly and properly?

According to the link below it costs £199. You don't have to go to the dealers and I'm sure you will find it cheaper at your local independant VAT registered VW specialist. It's completely up to you.

Why are you getting it done at 21k miles? Absolutely a waste of money, 40k is recommended for the wet clutch and when mine was done there wasn't much discolouration in the old fluid.

Not sure about DSG boxes as only having owned my GTI for 3 months, but previous experience on conventional auto boxes, oil condition is dependent upon driving conditions and age, not just mileage.
For £200 to extend the life of a major mechanical component costing (I imagine) at least 10x that value - you can’t beat preventative maintenance.

My previous A4 was an auto with 40k oil changes for the box. It failed at 80k with an uncomfortable 4 figure bill, the repairers who were specialists recommended 20k oil changes so there could be some value in additional changes as per above. It certainly can't hurt and so long as the OP is happy to spend the extra. For me though it would also depend on how long I was going to keep the car.

I get mines done next week at the dealer it’s a 2013 but it’s only done 25k, it’s more for peace of mind as it could be 10yo before it gets to 40k costing £189 also get a oil service for the same amount.

Thanks and as you can see the others are reassuringly suggesting this level of pricing too, at a dealer.

finglonga, I didn’t know what the interval was, thanks for that.

“Why are you getting it done at 21k miles? Absolutely a waste of money, 40k is recommended for the wet clutch and when mine was done there wasn't much discolouration in the old fluid.”

Well, I suppose I’m one of those odd people who change the engine oil every 3 - 6k when I can, not always the filter though, not necessary imho

Because I’m not an engineer, I don’t subscribe to the “if it ain’t broke” school here because if it did break because of oil problems, it would almost be uneconomical to fix it!
You will have seen Watts input on this point.

In any case, because the DSG is imho one of the best things about the car, I just feel better giving it a little extra care.  It more than deserves it  :-)
