Title: HOW TO: MK5 GOLF Nokia Car Kit PART 1
Post by: The Doc on 20 May 2006, 17:59
How to fit a MK5 GOLF Nokia Car Kit and get your radio to mute, and get your sounds through the car stereo speakers.

ok here goes....

To do this job you will need:

An autoleads interface lead ( 06-116b VW 2003- )  and car phone kit - the one shown here is the Nokia Advanced Hands free Bluetooth Car Kit CK-7W.......

1= Interface, 2= Microphone, 3= Control Unit and remote

Some insulating tape, wire strippers & cutters, torx T20 and T15 drivers and a small flat screwdriver or pick set.

and about 1.5 hours......

PREPARING THE LOOM

Unpackage the loom and find the RADIO (Female) end and look for the BLUE wire that goes to the CAR KIT CONTROL UNIT.

Once found, Cut this wire at the RADIO end and pull it out from its loom.

Tape up the loose wire on the RADIO end of the plug.

FITTING THE MIC

Remove the fuse box cover on the end of the dash
(http://img465.imageshack.us/img465/1381/dsc030227lx.jpg)

Then remove the plastic bar shown below by pulling on it
(http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/3459/dsc030236xr.jpg)

Next open the cubby below the main light switch
(http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/7826/dsc030250dx.jpg)

Remove this by squeezing the sides as show. Pull the box down and outwards.

Next,  hold your mic at the top of the A pillar and run the wire from it behind the A pillar trim as shown AND ONLY THIS WAY SO AS TO AVOID PROBLEMS WITH SIDE AIR BAGS PLEASE

Then run the wire to the bottom of the a pillar trim - hide the wire by pulling the rubber back and inserting the mic wire.

At the bottom of the a pillar trim insert the plug end of the mic through the hole as indicated
(http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/3446/dsc030345ck.jpg)

Then pull it out through the cubbyhole opening. Leave the mic wire there for now.

REMOVING THE RADIO CONSOLE

Look to the top of the console at the air vent ( NOT on non-climate cars simply remove rubber mat and follow below )

Remove the small light sensor at the rear of this vent and unplug it.

Then insert your fingers into this hole and pull upwards to remove.

Once this vent cover has been removed look to the rear to find a screw - remove this.

Then insert your fingers into this panel hole and pull upwards to remove.

Look into the top and you will see 2 more screws, Remove these.

Then pull the upper radio/air vents panel upwards to remove it - this is a little painful!

Next remove the 2 screws shown
(http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/8182/dsc030488kp.jpg)

Then remove the facia panel by pulling it towards the rear of the car, from the top corners.

Once the front panel is removed there are 8 screws holding the radio and heater controls in place - remove these
(http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/259/dsc030544ij.jpg)

Now slide the radio out and place it on top of the dash.

Unplug the main loom by pressing the fastener together and pulling backwards
(http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/7852/dsc030569lw.jpg)

If you have a cd changer or sound pack etc now it the time to remove the extra plugs from the loom. DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THE 2 MAIN WIRING BLOCKS only the "clipped" in ones.

Sorry for the delay - YOu can put it behind the dash - yes BUT make sure there is no metal in the part above your ariel!

You could also put it in the top mounted air vent if you have on as this is made of plastic

hi Doc

i have cracked it - in theory - got help from other vw forum guys!

Your right - MFSW doesnt come with the connectors from the switch modules to the steering column plug. What is need is a new airbag loom - so you can use your current airbag.

This loom has three connection points. From steering column to airbag. And then on from air bag to modules. part num 1K0 971 584 C cost approx £30

So one needs this loom plus a MFSW minimum. I understand that depending on your cars build, programming of/and/or new can bus may also be needed. - mines apr 06 build so may be ok. But i will start with the first two as they are mos def needed. then work from there

will u posted

Hi Doc.

just joined this forum and hoping you can help.

We've just collected our brand new Tornado MK5 GTi - great car. I'm looking to fit the Nokia wireless kit shown in this thread (very very useful info BTW). However, Doc you say:

"An autoleads interface lead ( 06-116b VW 2003- )  and car phone kit - the one shown here is the Nokia Advanced Hands free Bluetooth Car Kit CK-7W......."

We have an RCD 500 with the 10 speakers. On this website they say we need a different adapter (A BMW shaped one):

http://www.siocommunications.co.uk/06-076B.html

http://www.siocommunications.co.uk/06-116B.html

Is this wrong?

Thanks for any help you can give before I buy the bits.

T/.

Very sorry for the delay m8!

Did you win or do still need help?

I've not got around to doing this yet - will probably be in the new year now. Would still like to know which part to get - I'll probably get the 'original' part unless anyone knows that the RCD500 really does require the BMW shaped one.

Any light you can shine on this would be appreciated to save me having the car in bits for a few days while I return/get sent the right adapter cable.

Thanks - interestingly, since I posted my original request they've updated the website to say RCD 300 and RCD 500 ... just said RCD 300 before with the other one being RCD500 and BMW.

I dont suppose you would be able to advise me on how to wire in my Road Angel as i currently
have it plugged into the ciggarette socket and it spoils the look. Cheers!

You can take power from the rear of the dash fuse box on the drivers side or wire it into the phone connections.

When your fitting the kit call me - you will find my number on my web. and I'll tell you how to wire in your radar detector.

Cheers Doc

I managed to wire in my VW i-Pod adapter no probs apart from getting the brown wire out of the
block as you need a special tool, but a safety pin sufficed, Your Nokia instructions helped no end
Thanks!
