Golf PD150 GTI - Cooling fans packed up again......

Just to let everybody know that my cooling fans have packed up again...........The car has only done just over 20K and they were 1st changed under warranty @ about 14k (free of charge).  This time the stealers quoted £580.00 to get them fixed (my cars an import so it only had a 2 year warranty).  But I insisted that this was unacceptable as the fans only lasted 6 to 7000 miles.  In the end VW paid 70% off the total bill, which was I thought was ok.  From now ok im going to leave my climate control system in Eco Mode and I think its the aircon that keeps packing the fans up, ho hum.

I've just had the same problem. Dealer has advised that I contact VW Customer Care as this is a known fault! 
Although it's the first time I've experienced it in 66K miles. I'm 7 months out of warranty on a 52 plate PD 150. 

I've spoken to VW who are liaising with my dealer - let's see what they say

Well I've been offered 30% Parts & Labour towards the cost by VW 
Not exactly what I was hoping for but it's better than nothing

How did you realise that your fans were packed in, is there a way to test?

Ive read in another forum about fan cooling problems, i think its mostly for models with climate control...
